View Full Version : Rendering Lighting Passes
AnthonyC 06-24-2006, 03:55 PM Has anyone seen Tim Jones' Gnomon DVD, Environment Lighting for Production? I was wondering if his rendering passes technique only applies to rendering with VRAY and compositing with Digital Fusion. I'm trying to replicate the technique using mental ray and combustion but my results aren't coming out the same.

Can you post images of the passes and the comp you're trying to do?

Rendering passes will work with any software. Its not specific to Vray and Fusion. As long as your rendering your passes correctly and compositing them correctly then mental ray and combustion will work just fine.

Thanks gents for replying so quickly!
I've been testing it out with my max/mental ray/combustion setup and it does in fact work like how it should. It also works with multiple IES photometric files which is also adjusted by using the multiplier.
I've actually been rendering in lighting passes since Jeremy introduced me to compositing a few years ago with [Digital] Lighting and Rendering. Although before I've been rendering out clamped images and just adjusting it with its limitations. Tim, this technique has definetely opened my eyes even wider.
Much respect.
Will you guys be attending Siggraph this year?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to Siggraph this year. I usually only go when its in LA or San Diego.
