Pixar Animation Studios:

Pixar Animation Studios combines creative and technical artistry to create original stories in the medium of computer animation. Pixar has created six of the most successful and beloved animated films of all time: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Pixar has won 18 Academy Awardsฎ and its six films have grossed more than $3.2 billion at the worldwide box office to date. The Northern California studio will release its next film, Cars, on June 9, 2006.

Summary of Position:

Reviews concept art, storyboards, and rough animation to plan and execute the simulations and special effects needed for a shot.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Simulates natural phenomenon by applying direct and procedural animation techniques to create a variety of effects.
• Creates and composites 2D and 3D effects elements.
• Creates and communicates animation timing for effects.
• Works with production team to create the desired look for the effect.
• Works in a team environment to determine various design and technical solutions.
• Coordinates with other team members on integrating and optimizing the effects process with the balance of the production pipeline.

Background, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• 3+ years experience in film or television effects production.
• Thorough knowledge of both 2D and 3D computer graphics techniques.
• Working knowledge of Maya required.
• Procedural shading and scripting experience required.
• Compositing experience a plus.
• UNIX/LINUX operating system experience a plus.
• C/C++ programming experience a plus.

Range of Technical Skill Required:

• (1 is computer literate, 10 is skilled programmer)
• From 7 to 10: this is a relatively technical position.
