Has there been any concrete announcements as to WHEN Mental Ray for maya will start to support sub'D surface? The fact it doesn't support sub'D could kill my entire project, so this is very important to me.

isn't IPR just the same as using render region on a low quality output ? i don't miss IPR at all

You can always convert your sub-d's back to polygon and render.

As for the Ipr , Mr for maya has a crap implementation of Render region from xsi , it doesnt update automaticly you have to click on it everytime so it kinda defeats the purpose.

What you can do is switch to maya renderer when doing your ipr tuning and render back with mr when you are happy.
