View Full Version : OT: 3d scanning services
JoelOtron 01-14-2003, 02:31 PM Anyone know of a company that offers 3d scanning services in the Philadelphia or NYC area? Anyone have an idea of price range for purchasing such a tool? (Preferably the hand held laser gizmos).

Thanks Flingster.
I was working on the project from Hell:
female bony pelvis model that had to be identical to the actual skeleton that I was provided with to work from. The model was to be reviewed by 3 Drs. who are among the leaders in female pelvis anatomy. You can imagine how many hours of revisions I went through with this. (!!!!!!)
I was considering just getting it scanned towards the end--because it couldnt get more accurate then a 3d laser scan--but lo--and behold--I actually got the thing APPROVED on the last pass just a few days ago! That is, with just a few "minor" tweaks to do of course.
I will log this link --as I may need this service again at a later date. Thanks!
(had to vent)
The hand held one they use/used at Weta was adapted from an agricultural scanner for meat for detecting something in the meat think it was, anyway Weta saw it grabbed one and voila.I bet the meat scanner is about 100 times cheaper then the purpose built 3d ones as well.Give them a mail Joel they might tell you where to find one :)
