Has there been any concrete announcements as to WHEN Mental Ray for maya will start to support sub'D surface? The fact it doesn't support sub'D could kill my entire project, so this is very important to me.

Don't quote me, but probably MR2.0 connection, which I believe is due for maya 5 this summer. MR1.5 connection just came out, so I don't see 2.0 anytime soon.
