nice:thumbsup:

i see the one worm isn't on the hook, is it supposed to be like that?
and the bubbles on the left need some work, maybe just soften them a little?

nice though

Very nice, but remember:

It's not how deep you fish, it's how you wiggle your worm.

I thought that fish looked familiar before, and now it hit me that he looks a lot like Alfred Hitchcock!

Great charicaturization in the fish, if thats a word. I prefer the first render, since it is a cartoon, there is no need for realistic details like worm hook placement and correct fleshy worm color.

Looks really good! And I agree, it looks just like Mr. Hitchcock!

One question:
How'd you get the light effect on the fish's back? is it just a light projecting an image?
Oh, and does the light effect animate?

Great work! I love this image....great character!

BF: I dunno what software he's using (maybe he told us, but I'm to lazy to read) but I've seen that Mental Ray can do stuff like this....think it's called Caustics or something...

anyways, great job Obsti! I really dig the cartoon style :)
One thing though...isn't the worms supposed to have the hook through their body? 'cause I see atleast one that looks like it hangs up over the hook...

I think it's Max....but could be wrong....I went to his site and saw more cool stuff....

I like it!

May I suggest using a neat comicbook trick? Try having the bubbles from the fish's mouth trail behind it. This would strengthen the feeling that it swam through all that stuff. Excellent! Gosh I wish Rhino could do this...blasted textures. *sigh* One day I 'll make something as cool as what you've made!

toce
01-16-2003, 02:06 PM
that s brilliant!!

only the bubbles could have their opacity turn down a bit I think...

Teyon
01-16-2003, 02:08 PM
Oh, and as an aside....it looks more like Brando than Hitchcock in my opinion. ;)

Sloppy but naiiiiis.

But really, exept for the way the worms are floating
around, the image is neat.

Kick Popo delicious eigener Style.

P.S: Also, compared to your 2002 work, a big improvement.

I love it once again great style, I prefer the second render it seems more together to me, however I do agree, try softening the bubles a bit, actually no dont, I think it will destroy the depth of feild thing. Good Job

Model and environment look great. I would suggest not having the fish dead center in the picture though. Makes for a compositionally bland render. Just an idea. Look'n good.

that's a really great pic!

I love it! I don't see the style as Pixar either. Yours is more edgy.

Great Job,
Wondering what software you used
to get this look.
I think it is hitchccok and not brando though.

Actually, the hook with the worm will not sink. It will float on the surface... but, God damn, who cares? :D
The image look great and I partculary like the Fish itself :)

nice... the only comment I gots is that the worms seem to be... cloned? they all look the same... move them round a bit more, and it would look a little better :D

Great image!!
Some suggestions to consider though:

Some previous posts mentioned to off-center the fish more. This is ver yimportant and will really improve you composition and make it more pleasiing to the eye.
Another mentioned trailing the bubbles. Also a great suggestion.

For my imput, I would suggest playing with the lighting of your backround to create more contrast and imbalance. Think of how you can use light and colour to draw attention to your subject.
The use of light and dark colour can make for a very dynamic image.
Disney will create background paintings that are more light where the character is doing their business to help focus the viewer's attention. It's subtle but very effective.
It's a very busy scene with all the hooks, so maybe think of your arrangement of the fishing lines to draw the viewers focus to where you want it!
Great stuff. Love the character!!! :applause:

I agree the, worms look a little bit cloned, maybe you could stretch some longer and skinnier, wrap a couple around the hook a little better..

Overall great job htough.

Nice work!!... like a Finding Nemo Pixar film!

Omita
01-17-2003, 01:37 AM
The only thing I would suggest (because you said you wanted a crit) is don't put the fish in the center. The composition is interesting but doesn't have much visual flow. I think the bubble; fish are a little too separated.

A little tweaking would make the whole composition much better.

The 3d skill is superb.

Great pic and character! Congrats on getting the front page!!!

Ha....he IS Marlon Brando!...uh, plus Hitchcock!

I think a cool follow-up render that would fit his character in my mind would be a shot with the fishy facing the camera, still keeping that same tired expression on his face, but him peering out of the corner of his eyes at one of the hooks...like "OK...this is just RIDICULOUS. Like I'm really gonna bite..." An animation could just simply be his eyes slowly darting from one worm to the other, and once in awhile the corner of his mouth twitches up like in one of the great Chuck Jones' Wile E. Coyote or Daffy Duck cartoons.

Lovin' it!! :applause:
