Hi guys,

i'm making a low-poly model of george best (3ds max - poly limit 5000) and I'm currently working on the head. I've set myself a rough limit of around 1000 polys for the head and this is what I've done sor far. I was looking to recieve some critique on this so far. I haven't completed the ears so far or the eyes, and the nostrils haven't been worked into either.

many thanks - jonny

Nice start dude. Main problem is it's just the front render, without the side views for sense of depth it can't truly be criticised or complemented for that matter. My only advice is that the edge loops around the eyes LOOK to close together, as are the edge loops along the cheeks, but as I said, can't tell the true form without a perspective render. However, does look like best, great resemblance, I just feel that edge loops that are too close together will animate awkwardly, and may leave texture issues.

Keep up the good work !

yeah lol! i thought that too. Do you mean my model or the picture?

the picture isn't exactly real, it was created from a more 3/4 view image which I flipped and morphed to give that one but yeah i do the see the resemblence to viggo mortensson :)

cheers man (chillipunk), Ill look into what you said. By the way I've supplied some more views to look at, hopefully people can judge better now. More feedback the better :)

BTW - does anyone know how to do a render showing faces and wireframe, I know how to force wireframe but when doing so it fails to render the faces (im using max7)

cheers

there are 2 ways i know how to achieve what you want.

first is that you render out a pic with forced wireframe and one shaded. after that you go into photoshop, open up the shaded one and copy the wire pic as a new layer into the picture. after that reduce the opacity of the wire layer until it is okay.

second ay is to copy your model and add a push modifier to it, with a slightly push so that the model is not much bigger than your starting one. then you assign a material were force wireframe is on to your pushed model.

that's it.

some renderers like final render ship with an included function to render wire-shaded pictures.

I've made a few more changes since earlier and there still needs to be work done on the nostrils, the ears and a bit of the eye. Please let me know how well it compares to the picture and what you think of the topology.

Cheers
