w00t that's an awesome more, Sir Manfred! Oh, and a great concept too!! Looking forward to seeing the back story too :)
Are you using Lightwave? That looks a bit like a LW render. If so, you should check out that FIs_wrinkle plugin (http://www.infoseek.livedoor.com/~f_ichikawa/) to add cool details into the body ;) I love the ears! :D
What might be cool, and to add some extra detail to that very cool bent neck, would be to add the spinal bones sticking out - I'd imagine that the spine would be taking quite a lot of pressure from the weight of the head, and it might be cool to show that by having the skin pulled tight over the spinal column :)
SirManfred

Thanks people! :)
Leigh: Im not using LW... its Max all the way :) I have thought about the spinal thingy you mentioned and i thought that i would come to details like that when the general body proportions is done :) Thanks again for your reply.

Thanks for any replies and stuff like that. :)
The background story:
These are the Murdûk people :) They are a constant travelling people. Althou, they sit all the time. They sit on the backs of giant lizzard like creatures. (Wich i will also model) Its common for this race to have rather big bellys, thats because they dont move much and doesn't have many eating breaks. Since they sit almost all the time, they have developed these odd crooked backs. That is for getting them a nice and comfy sit.

All is good for a start of a begining ;) good thing that your just putting the basics in first then deal with the realism later. as long as you get your basics down on that model then do what ever u can think of :)
Keep it comming don't give up man :)

That's looking good  I like the addition of the spine bumps - very cool ;) Although they do need some tweaking in terms of their shape - at the moment, they just look like warts or something. Spinal bones have a very specific shape, but I'm sure you are going to do that anyway :)
Cool stuff though, looking forward to the next update :D
Looking awesome...such detail from one post to the next...great job Sir...you're really kicking ass on this one..keep it up:thumbsup:

Hey Manfred,
That is one sexy beast! The feet are my favorite so far, but the whole thing is really solid. I think the guy needs to eat something, though. Looks like his belly is suffering from malnourishment. Maybe he can eat a hobbit to start and work his way up the food chain.
For such a big belly, I think he may need a more severe crease underneath, but since it probably won't be seen under clothing, it's not a big deal. Just a detail thing.
Keep it up, man. Let's see those hands!

I especially like the feet and the head, and yeah, i agree with ACfred - that belly needs some gravity, he looks pregnant, rather than fat. but thats a minor issue. really good overall :)

I think it's looking very very good Sir Manfred.................... I believe as you progress you should keep thinking.....Iregularity as much as possible. As Leigh mentioned with the spine and for other detailed subjects within your creatures furthur developement. Nice toe nails, well featured head,etc,etc...nice everything actually. It's already impressive, but I can see lots more in the potential department still to come.
I can see the modeling is going very well,I'll just be around to remind you all about the extra details as they become needed,or the keeping things off balanced a bit or more irregular and non manufactured.
Well see you soon, very nice thus far.

01-18-2003, 11:01 AM
Virtuoso: Thanks for your reply, mate. I looked at your "iregularity"-advice a bit. I took away the 2nd arm protection woody thingy and added a shoulder shield instead. Same style though. I have plans to add somekind of a leather bag later on. He will get his walking stick and he will probably get his creature to sit on.

A couple of things are calling for extra detail. The sides and back of the neck seem too smooth and need some wrinkles or warts or some kinf of foldy bumpy things. The line on his face that runs right above his jaw to up under his cheekbones is a bit harsh, maybe smoothing that out would look better. And he needs some kind of helmet. Looks badass so far. Everything else from here out is extra. :D

Well it's coming along very well Sir..........
My only thoughts for the time being would be the toe nails.............It's just a minor tweak for extra realism purposes, and not a knock on what you have so far, because they are really well done to this point.
But to give them that out of this World level of high level details I would go the Crooked or curved route just a bit with them. A slight bend,a slight curve,a slight chip to each toe nail, all different, all scaled a slight touch in size.Try and avoid the cookie cut look, the instance it all look, make it look more like real World toe nails from a creature, irregular all the way. Well that's it for now,I think you have a very fine creature thus far,and am looking forward to more.Fine job Sir Manfred.

Looking cool so far! :)
Crits I have though would be that some parts of the skin (particularly the arms) are looking a little too blotchy. Skin can be blotchy but not so randomly so. Also, the skin seriously needs a bump map now - especially on the legs, they really need some more detail!
His clothes also need more detail - not so much the waistcoat, because that looks cool, but the shorts need a lot more detail. Add some seams along the bottom, with stitches or something.
The only other thing that bugs me is that some of your shadows are very black - try and elimate those, because such dark shadows don't really suit this character :)

Now that I see the face full on and quite big, I think that it definitely needs more details in the texturing - especially in the colour and bump maps - the key word is VARIATIONS! ;)
Also, the wrappings on his arms legs need some more textures too :)
I think the model looks great though :D
Hey, beatifull work. Very original.
I can see he likes beer a lot.
The modeling seem to be very good and clean.
I don't think that in this level of the work you would come back to change something, but if you could put some ribs signs or marks it would break the smooth profile of his stomach.
But the work is really amazing, this is just a thought.
Wating for more posts of yours.

could we take a look on youre texturemaps?
Titan
02-03-2003, 03:12 PM
hey manfred, my old friend!
youre model looks really sweet, but I think it could use a little help to push it over the edge and give it that little extra bit of detail that really sells it.
I dont claim to be any expert but I'm just gonna mention the things that stick out to me.
first thing I would do would be to look at it objectively and try to imagine youre model in an ACTUAL scene of LOTR. Ask yourself what is it missing? Are the textures as good as the ones seen in the movie, look at the layers of detail they have on orcs and other critters. also look at the level of modelling detail in the movie and compare it to yours.
The orcs, for instance, have tons of miscellaneous attachements and primitive looking jewelry or weapons, random dirt or paint;
I also think that the insides of the elbow joint and the knees could use a little more detailing to sell it. Maybe some veins in the arms, his arms look very strong despite his belly, so maybe detail out the arms just a bit more. maybe increase the hand size just a bit.
But this is by far one of the best models I've seen you do, great job!!!! good luck in the competition!
Oh come on, how fancieless is that? Why does he need to use the movie for reference? His own interpretation is what is relevant, not the Weta interpretation don't you think? Whats with some sort of comic interpretation, is that totally wrong just because it doesn't look like the Weta version?
Hope you know what i mean...
Titan
02-03-2003, 03:41 PM
wow, blasted for my opinion...imagine that.....
my apologies manfred
...disregard everything I said......
granted I have not read your entire post, but if you are truly going for a comic or stylized version, then you got it down bro...
I do believe my crit clearly defined that it was MY own PERSONAL opinion...
nonono i didn't want to annoy you, there where just my thoughts about it, you made yours, and these where mine :p
maybe he thinks like you, but i guess if he wanted that style maybe its good like it is, and it has not to loke like the Wetastyle, its just a matter of personnel taste i guess
this was no attack against YOUR own PERSONAL oppinion, just my thoughts about your post, maybe you are right and i am wrong, and maybe me english is just too bad and you don't even understand what i was trying to say ;)
hope you don't mind...

DimitrisLiatsos: I share your oppinion about the shorts :) I'll see what i can do.
