I am currently working at a new studio as a production manager. In the past I have been tracking production "by hand" (a bunch of worksheets for each asset, documents here and there) and I was able to kept the whole thing organized.

Now I am dealing with a much bigger project and there is a new one coming up which will require to be tracked as well. The studio is getting Alienbrain so assets will be easier to manage in a way but, as far as I know there is no specific software to track animation shots.

Basically what I am looking for is a system that can track an specific Scene and shot at their different stages (blocking, 1st pass, lighting, fx, ...) and to be able to manage who is assigned to and its progress at different levels as well and if it's to much to ask, associated sets, characters, etc.

Any tips, ideas that you want to share?

Cheers!
Oz

Ms Project (if you have money) or Open Workbench (Google it, it is free and really nice) should do the task...

I love FileMaker Pro 8 for things like this. Its a database program so you can create exactly the work flow you need.

Hi Oz!

Ever heard of dotproject? :) Of course, MS Project is far more complete (you can also track spending, and you can easy calculate critical routes (rutas criticas), especially when you use their multiuser add in. This means that your team will be able to update their own tasks.

On the downside, with microsoft, you have to pay for every bell and whistle you want or need.

I understand that dotproject 2.0 has solved the security problems you and I found last year, but I haven't had the time to test it yet.

Cheers and pls say hello to K!
