I have been working on this model for several days and am now in the process of painging the texture. my main request as far as critique is what kinds of things i can/should add to make the texture more detailed. Also i would like general opinions as to the level of skill displayed on the piece.

The images are as follows: the basic model without textures, the textured version, and the texture page.

Wires and polycounts, those are important to see/know when judging a piece.

Its a unique design for this kind of ship, which is always good to see, but imo your textures are hurting it. Insofar as skill is concerned, your uv layout is telling because there are many areas that you should be able to mirror, thereby increasing their detail without having to paint each one individually. You may also want to split this one up into more than one map - I'm not sure what resolution you are working with but if the small creamy colored things near the bottom are the sails, I think there may be a problem. Please post more once you have further refined the texture.

I agree that the textures are pretty bad, I'm going to take your suggestion and break it down into a few pages to make room for more detail. The current texture map is 2048x2048 to make it easier to work with. I can easily shring it down if i put this into a game engine.

Here's a wireframe picture to give you an idea of how it's built. I actually came up with the idea for this model from watching a japanese fighting fish.

Thankyou for your feedback.
