I am desperately waiting for unreal... :(

My love affair with the unreal 3 engine shader system started almost a year ago... I want to share that shader joy! but I have to wait.. my games not finished.. and Unreal Tournament 2007 hasnt been released yet...

but anticipating the release of the engine/game some time this year... I am working on a detail mesh for normal mapping.

what can I say... I'm a sucker for cliche! :D

Of course this is a long way from finished... but I have time on my side :)

Timmy!1

way to go man ! i like her design, but the abdominal armor doesnt quite suit with the detail that the rest of the body has. lower part of body is a winner !

I, too, am anticipating the new Unreal engine. I've given up on Half Life 2; it's just not doing things like normal mapping as well as I had anticipated. I feel like all my dreams will come true when UE3 comes out! I prefer the UnrealEd program to any of the other editors, anyway.

By the way, anyone have any tips on how to get the same lighting that they use in many of the promo shots for Gears of War? The very saturated look that really shows off the normal mapping. Thanks!

thanks everyone for encouragement!

requiem 2d; everything is open to change.. the hair is just a 'blob' mesh, a placeholder until I decide I want to keep/change the shape

Johny; cool, I shall consider things.. the body suit is something I have to put time into

SHEPEIRO; I made a change to that area, it should be ok now ;)

orko60; they use allot of lights in there scenes.. as far as I am aware! (simulating lots of bounced light in the enviroment the hard way)

Greentea|; I dunno.. millions ?

That does look very nice! GJ!

Though, I am pretty sure (almost 100%) that UT2k7 will not come out until Q1 of next year at least...that is according to an inside source. But either way, I am looking forward to it too. Thinking about starting a mod on it aswell.

Yeah, that really does look awesome. Nice work mate!

Hey Tim, do you have any idea as to how many polies a character model in UT2K7 can take? At Unrealtech's website, they're Gears Of War model is around 5k, but that game is for 360 only, so i wasnt entirly sure. Any ideas?

The models in Gears of War are more than 5k, I think it's only the enemies that has a polycount that low. Both the main characters in GoW and the ut2k7 ones are probably around 10 000. Their website says 3-12 000 for typical characters.

thanks guys,

5- 12k would sound like a good range. Obviously it will depend on the complexity of the character! ;)
