View Full Version : st patty's
Warden 03-12-2002, 11:18 AM I was hoping to create a nice still of a leprechaun for St. Patrick's Day to email to clients but I may not finish with this week's schedule. Maybe I'll make it a post St. Patricks Day image and pose him in a drunken stupor. I'm still halfway designing his clothing (simplifying what I can for time sake) so give me suggestions.

hehe that's cool chris . . . you should definetely give him one o them lil leprechaun hats . . . and a breastpocket wouldn't be bad either.
I'm lovin your style, but I can't help but wondering what happened to your goblin . . .

I love it. Great design, great modelling. This character has a believable weight to him and the proportions are spot-on.
Well done..
(What a pity it would be to miss St Paddy's with this little fella)

Nice one there!
You're a really great modeler!
Actually, he looks a little bit like Bilbo Bagger ;)

yep . . Bilbo was the first thing that went through my mind when I saw it . and that's not too bad I guess.
Really cool model :-)

Maybe you want to share some tips with us? ;)

Nice idea to render the background the same as the forums background. Very thoughtfull of you... that's something I gotta try. What are the rgb values btw? -- The model itself is great.
zohzoh
03-12-2002, 03:51 PM
The rgb for the two different redish background colors are:
Darker:
R 72
G 0
B 0
Web #480000
Lighter:
R 119
G 0
B 0
Web #770000
Hope it helps... ;)
btw great modeling skills... just had to say it

good modeling... I like st patrick's day...
I can suggest some idea...
for the legs : kilt, scotish style shoes and socks (white, up to the knees and some decoration (tartan.. etc))
other ideas : large trousers attach under the knees and big shoes (walking shoes.. or something like that)
some details : a breast pocket with a clover, a bowler hat, a wood cane, a smocking pipe...
all these ideas are very standard for a st-patty's character.. hope this can inspire you...
excellent!!
design. and model.
BTW. do U have a formal fine arts education? coz it seems U
know a thing or two about sculpting.
also
which program\render R U using?:p :p :p :p :p

Equinoxx,
My goblin is on the back burner right now but hopefully I will return to him and when I do I'll post some shots.
Aarkon,
Yeah I was thinking of a pipe with some curling smoke and I think I might be able to pull off some sideburns and bushy eyebrows with sas light.
Adrien,
Thanks for the ideas. I'll probably go with the short pants instead of the kilt and tartan.
ruzz,
No "formal" fine art education, but thanks for the compliment. I use Lightwave 7 and rendered this guy with hdri monte carlo radiosity.
now back to work

I saw your goblin on Newtek's forums. You're an amazing modeler, and remembering your animations there, not to shabby in that departmet either. I've been trying to emmulate your technique a bit. On the newtek forum you talked about taking everything by extruding flat polygons. Could we see a unsubpatched model shot? Thanks, man, you've been an inspiration.

Very good work, I like it.
What HDR image do you use for your environment?

Excellent work-
I am particularly fond of the clothing and how well it moves according to body position.
Out of curiousity, how large do you intend your texture mapping to be? Will it be suitable for closeups?

Here's a little more work. The hands are temporary at this point. I grabbed them from another character. They are too round and don't have fingernails. I think I'll do the pockets as well as the seems on the jacket as bump maps.
Please give me your opinions on the proportions of the legs and feet.

Thanks for all your compliments.
Raul-Reznek,
My free time and inspiration hardly ever coincide.
jjburton,
I posted a few wire shots above. The unsubpatched model is pretty confusing to look at.
The Ripper,
I've been using an image from here:
http://radiosity.tripod.co.jp/hdri/lightprobe.htm
but it dosn't seem to be available on this site anymore. It's a shot of a red flower bed in a courtyard and some buildings.
D. Phoenix,
I was planning on doing pretty high res texturing. I do a lot of print work and thought of rendering out stills of this guy very big.

it be that they collide with the shoe?? that
they enter?? hopy u understand me!!! :)
greetz H-2-O
looks ace. maybe the crotch is a tad high and the jacket stands to far off from the shirt ~
great modeling and style.

Really nice work. :D
The legs could be a bit bigger proportion wise. Could you give us a wireframe close up of the hands. The Face is excellent!

Perfect work...Clean and with a lot of style!
I like it a lot...The shoes will be better if it will be a little more big...But the character is very nice like that!
Do you want to animate him?

amazing work, man!!!
i like the proportions of the legs, but he seems a bit too top-heavy... perhaps if you tapered the arm-sleeves(sp?) in a bit so we see that he has arm proportions that match his legs, then it might look a bit more balanced.
the wireframe of the pants seems weird, but it renders out great, so... who cares?...
awesome stuff. the pink skin looks great.

Impressive...
IMHO, your character needs bigger knees and ankle to support his big belly...
and feet are small too regarding the hands... (i know hands are temporary, but IMHO proportions of the hands are good)
i hope you will post a nice render, your model is really amazing :)
