the L_glass shader for mental ray would be your best bet:thumbsup:, there is plenty of info on this shader in the maya forums and there is a video tutorial on the deathfall website on how to use it. Sorry I don't have the links ATM but I will get back to you (or you could just do a search as it is easy to find).
edit: here is the tutorial link: http://www.deathfall.com/tutorials.php?op=showcontent&id=83

Here's the material I used on a glass swan I modeled:
Blinn
Transparency pulled to the maximum.
Fresnel effect attached to reflectivity.
Image attached to reflected color.
Refractions turned on.
Refraction index to 1.3
Refraction limit to 2
Last, raytrace shadows so your shadows come out with a little bit of transparency. And then yuo play with the lights. I liked using area lights.
Hope I helped!

how do you attach a fresnel effect to the reflectivity
ramp shader - sampler info ?

What's wrong with the built in MR Dielectric? Use it in a mix8layer or bumpcombiner to customize it.
With the mr dielectric it is best to build your models physically correct, ie give your glass thickness

Here's a thread with a link that explains how to attach the fresnel effect.

MR Dielectric i have tryed using seems to work for the most part but i was wondering what is the mix8layer and bumpcombiner and how do you connect them to the mr dielectric. and yes thickness is always a must for glass. thank you for help :):)

mix8layer and bumpcombiner are custom mr-shader (do a search to grab them)
you dont need bumpcombiner anymore when you have mix8layer.
it is like the maya standard layered shader, but for mr.
