View Full Version : Edit Poly modifier in MAX5
Xaint 01-14-2003, 01:37 AM Unfortunatley, there's no Edit Poly in the modifier stack of MAX5. Does anybody know a solution for this? A plugin would be nice! I could put it in good use and I'm sure so others.
Than Kyou!

You convert it to poly, you don't use a modifier (unless you use the Turn to Poly modifier and collapse it!)
Select your object, right-click, and select under CONVERT TO: Convert to Editable Poly.
BOOMK! Done.:D

Thanx for the post!
I need it to stay in the modifier stack, because I want to make references from meshes and I want to edit them further without loosing the reference relation between objects.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but you can always use the Edit Mesh modifier. It pretty much does the same thing as edit poly.

Also there's an Edit Mesh existing, but meshtools and advanced mesh operations won't work with it. I wonder why discreet didn't put an Edit Poly modifier too in their package?:hmm: Maybe they just forgot about it?!? Who knows?
But I need one!

@Xaint
I'm hoping that this might be something added in the 5.1 update. It's the biggest thing lacking about the epoly tools in MAX.

Oh I see now what you mean!! Sorry, i'm a bit slow at times. :p
Yes, an editpoly modfier would be good.

I could do things like this with ease in MAX, if Edit Poly modifier would exist.

It would be cool If someone could write a script to have Epoly in the modistack.:buttrock:

This would be nice. but as far as my scripting knowledge goes, this is not possible.. However, many people have reported it to discreet, so I guess we'll just have to hope they add it to te next release..
btw: I've read that discreet has gathered all wishes, and that they are working on something ... so maybe we can expect a point-release in the near future!

Well when epoly was put into Max 4 a lot of people found it odd that an epoly modifier was lacking and rumour was it was too unstable go in to the final version. We waited for it to go into the updates... and waited.... and then Max 5 came along and we're still waiting.
I think there has to be a really good reason why it's not there.

Nope, no epoly modifier. You'll have to use edit mesh
