I don't know how to create a cage in Maya. In max, for example, if I want to create a spherical cage, first I have to create a sphere then apply a material for it. In the material editor, I check Wire.
How can we do it in Maya?

You will either have to model the actual bars of the cage OR
use a wire shader which is what I think you are looking for

Hi,

Do a search in this forum for "render wireframe". It's not as simple as it is in Max, but a lot of people contributed some very interesting ways to achieve the same effect in Maya. Good luck.

KoshigayaStudios script from http://www.koshigaya.de will let you speechless creating wire cages from any object in maya. I suggest to get the version for windows that comes with an installer.
