What version of max are you using?
If you're using 5, go with the default renderer! Does the job well.
Otherwise, personally, I'd go with Brazil.

But, then again, this is like a "Which 3d app should I use?" question.

Ditto to what erilaz said....

Best thing to do is get ahold of a demo version of each of the renderers you're interested in and check them out. That'll at least get you on the right track.

Hiya.

I'm a fan of VRay. VERY fast, and excellent results.

Really depends on the job. I use vray a lot because it has a really fast raytracer.. Brazil I think is slightly faster with global illumination. I haven't used finalRender for some time, but I do know that it gives you the most options (checkboxes and sliders all over the place!)..

max5 also gives you many options though.. so maybe there's no need for you to buy any expensive plugin to get a nice render. check out the new advanced lightning.

Like Taoizm said, best thing to do is to download some demos and check them out for yourself

No not really. If u download brazil.. the renderer choke in the speed front and the vray is limited.

Heya,

There was never a downloadable version of the Brazil r/s demo - you may be referring to the Brazil r/s Public Test. It isn't fully representative of the commercial version of Brazil r/s.

The Brazil r/s demo is available at request, handled on a case-by-case scenario, by e-mailing contact@splutterfish.com .
The demo version is only limited in timeframe, so there's on resolution, feature, or even support limitations.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,
Richard Annema

Hy.

I think there is also a link in the brazil forum on the splutterfish-page, where you can download the public-test version.
Just check ist out.

Good Luck.

Heya,

Actually, that link was removed for the reasons stated on the download page.

In short - too many people though that the Brazil r/s Public Test was a demo version of the full vesionof Brazil r/s; it isn't - it lacks several key technologies and all the special modules (camera, light, materials.)

But if you still want the Brazil r/s Public Test, it can be downloaded from :

If you are not using GI in brazil, DOf is very fast for animation. Also the texture filtering is awesome

The most unique feature of Brazil is it's rock-solid stability.

between fR and brazil, i choose...

brazil

simply a better UI/workflow, thus far. i got to a point with fR where i realized, it was trying to be a standalone renderer in an integrated renders body.

Thank for everybody. I am trying with Brazil and Vray. In first, looks that Brazil make a bit more realictic, but Vray looks faster for animations with irradiance maps... I think the balance is in Vray at this moment. I follow trying :buttrock: and sorry for my english
