View Full Version : Regular IK vs. Soft IK
bobzilla 01-13-2003, 08:01 PM Just getting into MOCCA and I was wondering if I could take a poll of sorts. Does anyone have a preference or feel strongly one way or the other on using regular IK over Soft IK for chatracter animation?
Your input would be greatly appretiated.

Are you refering to regular IK in Cinema 4D or in other apps?
If your refering to Cinema's old IK vs. Soft IK I would definately prefer Soft IK. Its a lot more stable for preventing gimble lock through UpVectors and Goals. But most of all there is a lot of control on how cartoonish or realistic you want a character to be animated. Like if your animating a cartoony type of character you can lower the Anchor strength and add Dynamics to give secondary animation. But if you want to animate a realistic type of character you can up the Anchor strength and the strength of all the goals. I don't think that there are other IK systems that allow that level of control.
