It's been a while since my last car model. This time, instead of using blueprints, I decided to create my own design. It's not very original, but good enough for me. :)

So far, i've been working on it for 2 days. I've completed the base shape of the car (except the roof), so next, it's time for details.

I'm using 3dsmax8 and Vray. The model is polymodeled.

Edit: I'm changing my isp, so the images might be down, sorry. Check the latest posts for images.

Not bad at all ! It seems a good start. But the pillars (I'm not sure it's the right word) are way too wide. They make the windshield too narrow. And I would have put the foglights under the headlights. just a matter of taste. Keep it up !

Small update. The backlights are ready. Might do some chganges to them later. :)

Modeled the tires. I'll add more detailed brakes later. :)

Hey ! great improvement since your last post ! It's a really nice car.

Maybe you should add a crease around the rear window to follow the line of the front door.
And if you're not going to model the interior, drag inwards the edges of the fenders to avoid the "see-through". (sorry for my bad English, I hope you understand what I mean !)
Very good job ! congrats !

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to model the interiors as precisely as I can. You're right about the crease. I might add that. Now it looks a bit odd.

A render test with a light setup. rendertime 17 min. Still a LOT of work to do. ^^

Very nice job ! I just noticed a strange gap between the side skirt and the body, just behind the door . Just a couple vertices to move, maybe ?

Keep posting updates !

Cheers !

Update time. :)

I started to model some interiors. What do you think of the new color? lol ^^

Anyway, there seems to be a small bump on the front panel, i'll fix it for the next update.

I stared a couple minutes at you last render saying : "I MUST find something to crit !". Finally, am I allowed to say "Perfect" ?

I don't understand why you don't get more comments, but anyway, don't change a thing !

Yeah, i'm wondering that too. Thanks so much for commenting. :)

Anyway, actually, I am going to change something. The rims. Here's a small test render with the new ones. I still need to make some small adjustments to the brake disc etc..

that rim/tire render looks really nice except for the material for the rim. it seems a little too much like plastic. the tire looks great though

Finished some details, like windshield wipers. Now, i'm thinking about rendering some final images, unless you have some ideas how to improve the model. I'm aware of the fact that some parts are still lowdetail, but I want to get this project finished soon. :) I might model a cool environment for it too, but i'm not sure yet.

Anyway, here's the latest update. I'm still going to test different render settings and possibly add some detail. Your comments are very valuable for me at this point. Thanks.

Ok.. Here are the final renders, if anyone's interested. :) Big thx for FastForward for commenting. :)

Rendertime per one image was about 35 min.

Hi!
I like the shape of your car. The mesh could be more clean (and so the model) but your renders and render setup is very good!
Can we see some wires perhaps?

You're welcome, man , it was a pleasure !

I particularly like the fourth render and the rear shot. BTW, your new rims are much better !
Will you post it in the finished works gallery ?
And I wonder too how you did this very nice metallic grey...
Cheers
Chris.

very nice... I would like you to re-consider the propotions of the side mirrors, i think they need to be a little more scaled a tad.
You could try to put a nice environment to it.

WooT, so many replys! Thanks! Here's some answers.

How did you do the paint? is it a vray material? Im just learning vray.... The paint has 2 different vray materials combined with blend material. The material itself is quite simple, more important is the background what it reflects. here's my "studio" setup.. :D

Can we see some wires perhaps? Here's a wire, can you point out where the unclean mesh parts are? Everything is in quads, so that shouldn't be the problem. There are some small bumps somewhere, but imo they're pretty unnoticeable. :) About the model.. Well, i'm no car designer. hehe. XD

You could try to put a nice environment to it.I'm considering to make an environment or maybe a photo background. I did the mirrors pretty fast, so you're probably right. they could be improved. But i checked that they work like they should though.. ;)

if you triple edged some of your bevels they would shade alot cleaner (especially doorcuts etc). looks like right now they are only double edged. You should tighten up the door seams so they dont look as bumpy. It will give you nicer reflections in the end... looks good though

Heh, I never thought this thread would bump up again.. Anyway, thanks for your comments. :bounce: When I have time, I think i'll try to add an environment and maybe even try to make some kind of animation where I could use this car and maybe some others I've made earlier.
how many poly's was the final? The smoothed version has around 400,000 polys. Unsmoothed has less, about 25000. the tires/rims take a lot of those polys though.
