View Full Version : Keyframing in setup not working!

This has been bugging me a lot as I've been learning Messiah. Everyone says that to reset all your bones to the setup position, all you have to do is go into setup, hit enter and keyframe all. But that never works for me! I have to go through bone by bone and reset them all in Animate, under Motion block. I have the latest update of Messiah. Is it possible that some default setting prevents me from doing this? I have it set to "all items" in the bar to the bottom left of the view window. As my rig gets more complex, this is a real pain...

thanks for any tips on this,
NJ

In addition to the objects that you key, there is also a switch to set the channels you key. It is the little round button with the straight left edge two to the right of the coord sys button in the viewport. If you click on that you get a drop-down with all possible channel combinations. Try setting it to "All channels" or even "Extended channels".

Thanks, AlexK, for replying to this, I tried your suggestion, but this doesn't work, either!

I have 2.4d, the latest release, could there be a setting in it that is causing this? My arm's getting real tired from maually resetting every key...

Any other ideas, anyone??

You set your bone positions to fit the mesh while in Setup. When you are are animating, in Animate, if you want to put the bone back to its rotation from Setup, you click on the "reset rotation".

Not sure what you're trying to do, but your post made it sound like you were trying to reposition bones in Animate. Can't do that; you can animate them, but there "rest" position is set in Setup.

no, I'm talking about something Joe Cosman shows in his tuts. After trying things out in Animate, he goes back into setup and sets a keyframe at 0 using <enter>. When he goes back into animate, everything is set back to it's setup rest position.

But for me, I have to go and select every single bone i adjust in Animate, and reset it (the rest reset button). A LOT of clicking.

hope that's clearer.

I understand. I've just been getting back to messiah after a long break. Perhaps you have to set up a Group first. But as I played with it, I thought there used to be an option to key the dependents as well....but maybe I'm remembering LW.

I tried multiple selecting, but that didn't do it either. I assume you looked at each step Joe did so nothing was left out. It's also possible, that something in this temporary patch is broken and will be restored in the next...such as independent channels.

Best,
Rick

Have you tried the "setup2current" script?
Under F5 to get the panel (if not present gpot to zoogono to get it).
Put yuour timeline in anim at 0 and in setup double-click the icon.
One click solution.

Otherwise all select (and an eye on the channel settings) should work as well...

Thanks, but I don't find 'setup2current', or anything that fits the description at zoogoo or in the scripts included in Messiah. Sounds good though!

And, "all select (and an eye on the channel settings)" is what Joe C. showed to do, and that's what is not working here.
