Hey all-

I've got a female body finished modeling, and I'm curious now how to go about putting clothes/accessories on them. Here's the body lowpoly and high res, any suggestions would help. I'd like to just put some basic clothes on her, like jeans and a t-shirt, so I'd appreciate any help you can throw my way.

Thanks

Just add the clothes. There's really no trick to it. Jeans and a T are pretty easy to animate, as you don't really need any complex cloth dynamics.

I'd suggest modeling the clothes, and then removing the mesh underneath the character so you save polys that won't be seen. This should also help a bit when it comes time to rig the mesh, as the body won't pop through the clothes.

I'd personally recommend cloneing sections of the body mesh, and scaling it out a bit, then tweak and model with that. Just a thought, as your methods should depend on the intended use.

Hope that's of some help.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm just starting this technique and it seems to be working well. I only have done one leg so far, and have to go back and add folds and the like, seems like it's going to work. Thanks :)

I am a fan of copying a part of the mesh as 3DZealot said. How I do it:
1) Copy a chunk
2) Give it some negative Push
3) Extrude

If you've already done the uvw on the model, then tweaking the uvw for the clothes shouldn't be too hard.

wow the push is another option i hadn't considered. I'll definitely look into it more. about the uvw's, this is the first time i've really tried modeling a person in max, so I have no idea how to go about texturing her either. my uvw'ing toolbelt consists of planar, cylindrical and box :) so any suggestions on how to go about texturing this would be helpful and much appreciated too :)

wow! this is awesome! thanks again guys, i'm slowly
pushing along :)

There is a freeware plugin called solidify that will rock your boxers.

Sort of like a push on steroids. Takes geometry without depth, and extrudes the faces all the way around.

Think about it this way:

Take a plane, add solidify, you get a fully formed box.

It's very cool.

you can get it here:

I know the character and the clothes are supposed to be cartoony but the shirt could use some more detail. For example the shirt should stretch across the breasts and if the shirt material is stretchy there should be small dart-like creases along the seams.

Yeah I only have about five min worth of time into it now. I was just illustrating something with the solidify modifier :) but thanks for the comments

Looks like I need some more practice with modeling clothes.
Well, that was fun.
