I'm looking to buy a graphics card for my new PC. I'm pretty much only going to use Maya on it, so I've been looking at the qualified hardware on the Alias website, so I'm looking at the Fire GL series and the Quadro4 series. Is there some other cards I can look at? I'm looking to spend around $300.

Any help?

So far I've considered the Fire GL 8800 and the Quadro4 550.

In the 300 dollar range you pretty much have the geforce 4 ti series, or the firegl 8800. I'd go for a geforce 4 ti 4200, for around 140 USD.

pricewatch.com and plug in 750 XGL...

damn nice video card, for just under $400....

if you are going to use maya, the higher end Quadros are the way to go :)

I'm currently using a FireGL 8800 with Maya and it works like a dream.

Is the 750 XGL the lowest "higher end" Quadro? I have $320 as a max, would it not be worth it to get the 550? Or would the Fire GL 8800 be better than the 550?

the 550 if i am correct is built on a slightly different graphics.. something or other really high tech....

there is the 980, 900, 750, and 700, all XGL series cards, the 900, is around $900 (i wonder if they coordinated that) and the 750 is around $400... which isn't bad at all, and the 980 is an AGP 8X version of the 900 XGL, and from what i hear, you won't notice a difference, except the hole in your wallet :)

Thanks to everyone for the valuable info! I think I might go with the Fire GL 8800, if I can't scrape up an extra hundred bucks for the 750 XGL. Catch you on the flip.

MaDSheeP,

I've seen both 900 and 980 for around $550 on several sites. Sometimes they a bulk cards, other times they are the full retial versions.

Look around, use Price Watch and Price Grabber and any other search engines you can...there are a lot of deals out there right now because of the economy and the new graphics cards that are coming out or are out.
