Set your movie player to loop or the effect will be totally LOST!!!

SOWADATHINK?

Sadie is a character I've just completed (to a degree). What your looking at is her first animation. This is just a test of the model and rig, seeing if it deforms properly. This is the low poly model sans hair displacement SSS, bells and whistles, this is not about rendering, texturing or lighting so shuddup. Feel free to critique me on the rig, the design, the animation, the model ect.

Hit her page if you want to see more. http://www.bigfathairy.com/html/Sadie.html (http://www.bigfathairy.com/html/Sadie.html) Thereís some renders of her hair and some other bits and pieces that may be of interest.

Iíll be making updates to this thread and the website as I create more content.

Thanks

Hey, here's a new Movie. Sadie is now moving through space. Her hair is in the scene and moving. The scene still needs some rendering work. I think. Next I'm going to get some more cloths on Sadie and work on her shader a bit more.

Give me some feedback, I think the cycle may be a bit too fast. Let me know what you think.

lemme be the first of many to say... wow shes hot! :D LOL

now about the newest walk cycle.. i love all the secondary action (um..*cough)... but it looks like you have a huge pop when the cycle loops. i do like the subtle side to side and hip movement though! great job so far!

I'm so glad somebody finally replied. I was beginning to think it was so bad that is was unworthy of comment.

The most recient movie is actually only a cycle in the sence that the animation of the character loops. Only the first three movies are ment to be looped, the most recient movie is just ment to be viewed a single time. This is because I have here moving through space. I needed to get more accurate solving on the dymamics, and just to make sure that the walk cycle really works, so I have her global rig moving in stride with her walk. As she moves through space, she moves through the lighting environment and even if I found the frame that would have her animation loop the lighting would suddenly change. On the next render I will get another few hundred frames so that you can get a good look at the walk before it ends.

What about the speed? Too fast? When you look at something forever you quit being able to see things that novel observations can pick out immeadiately.

I just found this thread, so that's why I haven't replied 'til now. :)

You're model is a good representation of the Toon/Pin-up class of models with a touch of Anime thrown in as well. Being that she's highly stylized, the viewer doesn't expect "photo-real" movements out of her. Although, the creasing where her legs meet her hips when that leg is being brought forward during the walk cycle seems larger/deeper/wider than "expected". Also, the kind of stomping action in her walk also sticks out. Like she's trying to stomp cans flat that are on the ground, or trying to squish something in her path. Then again.. I was in a waiting room recently, and on the TV was one of those "how to be a supermodel/top model" shows. They were "teaching" the women how to walk like a supermodel. And it looked very similar, but unlike your model they didn't have that much to flaunt by doing so. :bounce:

I'm glad you got the look, that is exactly what I was going for.

The crease, yea, I really worked on that one, I've had it in a few different places, and not as deep, I re-worked it a few times. I'll keep it in mind as I continue to work on it. I may tweak it again, also, I forgot to render with the high poly model, so there may be a slight difference here in the high poly model.

The stomp during the walk. I was definately going for a little attitiude and pomp here, kinda looking toward a runway sort of walk. But I'll maybe soften this a bit.

No problem, I've been all over the board when it comes to art styles. From "Marvel/DC" comic style to Japanese Manga, and all points between. Not only reading, and being a fan of 'em, but also trying to study what makes each one work all the while. :D

Yeah, stuff that happens in low poly doesn't happen as bad in higher poly models, but sometimes it does the opposite. Like I'm experiencing on my model when I go between regular (low poly), and subsurfed (higher poly) mode. I've also had to tweak my model many times to get it to look the "right way".

Definately came across as a runway kinda walk/prance. Walks are all about the aura\persona you want the character to radiate.

Whattup, Below are links to new movies. Same walk cycle, but I gave Sadie more clothes. I know, seems a crime. I'm preparing Sadie for her first little short. She's going to be working out. I figure its a good way to show me any flaws in her rig as well as give me some more animation experience.

Y'know what'd make the clothes look better is a white stripe from the waistband of the pants' legs. To make it look like clothes she bought 'especially for working out. Although, given her body type, she's going to be restricted in the exercises she can safely do without injuring herself. :bounce: :D

Oh, and here's my Father's reaction to your character.

Ha ha.

I'll slap a stripe in there, thanks for the suggestion.

get rid of the Translate Z motion on the root control. in a walk, the body should be moving up and down, (Translate Y) and side to side (Translate X). If there is any Translate Z, it should be very subtle so that the viewer can "feel" it, but not see it.

Thanks Capel, I'll try it.

Here's a run cycle featuring Sadie.

Let me know what you think.

This movie must loop to get the effect, hence the CYCLE. From the Greek word Kyklos, which means circle. A cyclical pattern is one that repeats constantly. Looping is yet another form of this concept derived from it's meaning in mathematics in which a line on a graph that begins and ends at the same point.

Here's what you do to get it to loop:
1) Download the movie by right clicking and saving target (Explorer) or save link if your using Firefox which is my preference, I don't know what you do in any other browsers so you figure it out for yourself.
2) Open in Quicktime, you will need Quicktime to view the run cycles, I'm going to just output to Quicktime from here on out because it looks the best, compresses well and I only want to do it once.
3) Hit ctrl l while the movie is playing, you can also go to movie--> loop, or view--> loop depending on what version of Quicktime you have.

Sit back and watch the endless cycle for ever and ever and ever. Or just till you want to stop.

Cool. A new update. Although, they go by so quickly that I can't really make an accurate accessment of them. From what I CAN see, there's good motion/energy in the run. Like she's running laps.

Maybe you could you encode into a format like .avi, so people can have their video players "loop" those quick video clips. That way you could have the low filesize, but have a video that lasts longer than a file that size usually does without any loss of quality?

Oh.. have you seen my updates? I finally think I've got the hair situation worked out, so I can move onto the rest of the body. :) Now, I'm collecting some reference pictures. Y'know, art books, "how to draw" books, and the like. Did you draw out the Sadie's full body in front & side views, or did you start with similar reference pics. Then stylized the results into what you have now?

Hi,

You could probably make the run twice as fast and it would still work. At the moment it looks a bit slow, y'see.

As for the walk, track the hands and make sure the arcs are smooth. At the moment the wrists seem to lock in the forward position. I think you should also take a look at the mechanics going on in the legs. At present her toe is still pointing down way past the passing pose where the leg is almost fully extended, and it's weakening the shape of the legs.

If you are going for a sexy walk, remember that a lady will cross over her foot falls rather than straight line placements like a bloke.

Hope this helps
K

Nice man, Thanks! I'll look at both the walk and the run. They are both works in progress and I really appreciate the help!
