View Full Version : MAX IK System Tips ?
vertex 01-13-2003, 03:08 PM Hi,
I have used max since R4 so I am well versed in the package, my question is more to do with scene management, I intend to take part in the latest animation challenge but instead of using CStudio for my character rigs I am going to build new ones in max.
The real question is are there any tips for managing 10 or more character rigs in the same scene. ?
Things I should or shouldn't do ?
Thanks for any help.

Well...
No one has answered, so I'll give this a stab.
I've been using character studio for a long time now, and I too am just now working with max's ik system.
Things I'd recommend. First off, the obvious: Naming structure. Make sure you name everything properly. Can save alot of time in the future.
Selection sets. Make alot of them.
You say you have been using Max since R4, does this mean you are using R5 now? If so, there are new file types and workflow improvements for character management. Characters can exist as a single entity, including all meshes, bones, dummys, helps, etc. This can really help with managing multiple characters.
Also, dependant on your scene, there is always the option to us a particle system with instances of your character as a way to simplify your scene. Even if it's only for a still.
Hope this has been of help, though I'm sure you knoew all this already. I just hate for posts to go un answered.
GOOD LUCK ON THE CHALLENGE!

Thanks for your time 3DZealot
sorry about the R4 I meant when max was 3d studio R4 in Dos.
I will have a look and see how I get on, I am planning a scene with 9 or 10 character who all need keyframing.
One more question, is there any way of copy and pasting animation keys into and out of a character rig ?
Thanks
