Goodday all! I'm fairly new here and I figured I'd drop a question here, so I hope I'm posting it at the right place here ;)

I've been busy at digital painting for a little while now, I never used to think I could really paint something, you know how it goes when your young :P Anyways, I've been trying to get into matte painting for a while now, I also checked Dylan Cole's dvd's (which are incredible! cheers for that!) but I would really like to know in which order to put in perspective lines? or for that matter, how do you begin to make a setup?

For example, I have a picture of a landscape I took, drew some rough sketchy lines on them to visualise where I want some buildings, but then comes the great trick :) I've downloaded a PSD-file with some vanishingpoints/lines, which are in fact paths that I can drag around etc.

So, how do I set this up? Do I choose the horizon first and put one vanishingpoint on it? or 2 or 3 v-points? Could somebody tell me if I should setup the lines first and draw or visa versa :) And where to put the lines? It can be pretty confusing sometimes and I would really like too learn.

I know there are good books out there, but i'm not sure if they would cover my question like this? So if somebody could help me out, thanks in advance!

PS: since i've been checking this forum and site, i've had more inspiration :) Love it!

I don't want to sound impatient or anything, not at all, but is there no one who can help me shed some light on this? :)

It sounds like you don't understand perspective:

The Gnomon Workshop offers good DVDs on perspective:

What are you two blind? :banghead: I posted the exact same link above. I guess some things need to be said twice...

Oh well.
