Hi, a short question here...

Anyone know a plugin for 3D painting within the max-enviroment?

hi TOMMY

max-combustion integration can do that you can paint in max itself if you have combustion, you can use combustion as a map in your material and then paint on any surface you want.

There is a plugin from cebas called GhostPainter (http://www.cebas.com/products/products.asp?UD=10-7888-33-788&PID=5). This allows 3D-painting with Photoshop inside 3ds max. You can use any Photoshop brush, lasso... and paint with it inside the max viewport onto your objects. The strokes get applied to your current Photoshop image. (You have to see it to believe it)

Current Version is 1.0 but 2.0 is on the way (Q1 2003) as mentioned in the last psd-manager (http://www.cebas.com/products/products.asp?UD=10-7888-33-788&PID=38) press release .

DeepPaint 3D from right hemisphere is pretty cool although I only use a small part of the program that allows integration with photoshop.

I'm going to have to check out Ghostpainter. it sounds nice.

Hiya.

BodyPaint 3D from Maxon is works pretty well with MAX. It's a "plugin sort of thing"; it opens BP3D for you where you paint your object. When you are done painting, you hit the "Return to MAX" link and your map is imported back into MAX. It's realy quite smooth. You hardly notice it.

I'm going to look into that one "Ghose Painter" was it? Sounds interesting! :)

Ok, but How can I get rid of those damn ^&#%*%^$*(& seams???? (sorry for my language!)

It's obviously my lack of technique, but I cant seem to map right...

Deep Paint has an option where you can rotate your model to where there is an offending seam, then export that "screenshot" as a flat file to Photoshop. Go nuts with rubber stamp and blur, then you can fetch it back from photoshop into DeepPaint and your seam is gone.

I haven't used any of the other tools mentioned here, so maybe they have better tools for dealing with your seams.

I rather like Bodypaint for the tools, even if it's not integrated at all with the 3dsMax, but I hardly use this method of painting, have you tried unwrapping and Texporter?. I don't know if maybe that will be more usefull.

Man that ghost painter looks absolutly fantastic. I always wondered why someone didn't come out with something like that already.
Anyhoo, I just got DeepPaint from my company but don't know the first thing of how to use it. can any of you point out any tuts on getting set up with it as quickly and efficiently as possible?
Also how do I use it to paint in photoshop? If I can use it somehow to bridge the gap between max and photoshop I'd be a happier man.

This guy has one of my favorite tutes on UVW Mapping in Max 5 and he touches on DeepPaint integration. The best part is that he only focuses on the parts of DeepPaint that integrate with Photoshop, so it saves you time wading through a lot of the junk you may not need.

Hope this helps.

yeah I gave this a shot thinking that at the very least I could use it to create mix masks but it just crashes Max too often for me to consider it useable. Maybe when the full fledged version comes out I will give it another shot.

Use the projection feature in DP3D to remove seams on your textures, you shouldn't have to go through the hassle of exporting maps to PS.

GhostPainter never has to export/import maps between Photoshop and 3ds max, because Photoshop always holds all the image data while you work with GhostPainter. You can switch freely between 2D-painting in Photoshop and 3D-painting in max.

And it supports painting even on seams. GP2 is definitely a nice product ! And as you ever know max and photoshop, nothing to learn to use it !
