View Full Version : moprhing in 3dsmax5
dmccar 01-13-2003, 12:52 PM hi this is my first post using this forum, I am currently working on a project to visualise a componet for a new web server. The client has recently come back to me and has asked me to animate a sequece of shapes morphing to form into different shapes.
i.e he wants to morph from a circle shape to a square to a triangle to a hexagaon shape.
I have thought about setting up morph targets to do this; however I know that the vertex count on your models has to be exaclty the same as the object that you are morphing to. This already begins to present a problem with some of the shapes mentioned.
Can anyone suggest a good way to go about doing this.
thanks

if this thing is truly 2d, shown from the front, why don't use flash and then export to what format u need?? in flash u can morph between vector shapes... hope, that i have helped you...

hello there i thought that was the way to go early on in the project; however the client liked the look of the 3d model so unfortunately it has to be done in 3d

Render out your 3D shapes as images, and use a 2D morpher to warp between them. Elastic Reality used to be a great one, but I haven't seen it as it's own application in quite some time. I think it's now a part of Avid DS.
There should be a few free or shareware apps available out there.

thanks for your comments, as the project is being done in max I would prefer to do the morphing in max. I've started to look at using splines then use the morph modifer and add an extrude at the top of the stack.

i could send u an example max file
but it's very easy to do, just make the harder shape morph into the easier one, draw the circle, extrude, copy, move verts to resemble a triangle, apply morph mod.

it would be interesting to see how you set up your scene, if you have a max file send it over and I'll take a look at it.
