Hey everyone
Im currently working on a exterior scene where I use the Vray Displacement Modifier (2d mapping) for grass etc. Everything was working fine untill i got ready to do a final render and a Vray Exception error keeps popping up near the end of the final rendering process.
I rerendered the scene a couple of times and this error keeps coming up, even if i lower the quality. I assume it has something to do with not having enough memory. Im aware that Vray uses quite allot of mem when displacement is involved, but alas my scene is not that complicated. Ive seen allot of more complex rendered scenes online rendered with Vray and with system properties lower than mine.
I read a couple of articles about a "3G switch". Im not completely sure exactly what it does or of it will solve this specific problem.
Im currently using a P4 3ghz HT and 2gig DDR2 533 (two 1gig chips). Running 3d Studio Max8 with Vray Adv. 1.47.03.
If theres anyone with the slightest idee what the prob could be, any help would be greatly appreciated.
If theres any other info needed, Ill be happy to post them.
(sorry for my poor english)
Thanks Allot

check if you don't have overlapping geometry, did you put mapping on your object before vraydisp mod? what resolution is your disp map? what are the settings of your disp (512 and 8?).

Thanks for the response. :)
I checked for overlapping geometry a couple of times, there were some geometry overlapping but its sorted out now. But unfortunately it didnt solve the problem.
Material was assigned to the opjects before vraydisplacementMod.
Settings for the VraydisplacementMod are as follows:
2D Mapping enabled
Texture chan 1
Amount 1.5
Shift 0
Resolution 1024 (was 2048 but lowered it in a effort to resolve the vray-error msg.. didnt work)
Precision 16

Displacement Textmap resolutions are 2048x2048 (grass) and 1722x1246 (brick-driveway).
Render settings under "Vray Default Displacement" are all default.
Both objecs have UVW mapping assigned to them.

I hope these info help..

your displacement texture is quite huge. Lower it by half and set vray mod to resolution 512 and precision 8.

I mainly suggest to ask these questions on the ChaosGroup.com forum, since if you own Vray or are using the demo you should be there anyway. Big no-brainer.

I guess ill ask on ChaosGroup.com. I had network problems the other day and for some reason there were tons of sites i couldnt connect to, so i figured i asked here hoping there were someone who had experienced the same problem with displacement i had.

Funny how occationally some days come allong where everything that can possibly go wrong happens all it once, lol

I managed to render the scene in layers and did some correction in Photoshop (after lowering the resolution of the displacement maps etc.), so its not such a huge issue anymore..
However if theres still anyone that experienced this problem and know how to avoid it, im still interested in knowing. Just email me or send me pm :)

thanks for the help
