View Full Version : Races of Middle Earth_Character_Wave666
RandomTask 01-13-2003, 11:49 AM Hello all,
This is my concept sketch for a LOTR character/race.
Its very sketchy still so crits welcome.
Im still thinking on a background for him but he may be a sort of a cross between a goblin/orc and a troll????? used as a type of slave race, but some of his kind have rebelled against there oppressors and are fighting against Saurons forces......
Or something like that. :hmm:

What about a gorilla and a gator? Something that'll crawl out of the swamp and knock the peetoo out of ya!

Looks good to me.
I think it might be better if his back arched forward, looks like he's in for some serious back trouble at the moment.

Here is the start of my model.
Its my first proper attempt at an organic figure.

Small update, need to start on the head and add some more detail.

Lost the tail, started on the head.
Also Started some of his armour. It is going to appear cobbled together and scrounged.

Great start! Looks really good. One thing: Is it me or does he look a little uncomfortable in that pose? Almost like it's unnatural for him. I'm trying to put my finger on why. I have a feeling when you add the tail that will help though.

I second that, he's gonne fall on his butt like this. His legs are in a croutching position. I'ts like he's about to lift alot of weight with his hands.
I think you need to redo the hind legs into smaller, but stretched legs.

Thanks for the crits guys, I have been tweeking the body to try and get it to look a bit more plausible?
I made the arms and legs longer and adjusted their pose.

The one thing I've noticed wave is that your making alot of work for yourself at the beginning with all the geometry you have in your model that really isn't serving to define the form anymore than it is. To move quickly to where you want to be, start as simple as possible in your geometry and move to your form in stages. You can use smooth shift, bandsaw, knife and even subdivide/metaform if you want to bring more detail into the form.
Check out Remi's tutorial on modeling a face in the LW forum. You can see his process of building up to a detailed mesh from a simple one. Right now I see you fighting mesh and control points to get what you want. I hope this helps.
If you need anything else feel free to post on mine, message me or email me. I also pop in and out of the IRC channel as well. Good Luck!

Thanks heaps Cougar, I am finding the mesh a bit unwieldy.
I guess I need to get a bit more experience with organic
modeling to find a balance between detail and workability.
Ill check out the face modling tut.
