View Full Version : New LCD Monitor - BETTER than CRT!
DanSilverman 06-15-2006, 02:51 PM Check this out:
LCD panels have traditionally been lagging behind CRT monitors in terms of color response, saturation, accuracy and overall black-level response. Because LCDs are "always lit" by a backlight, deep dark blacks have been the Achilles heel of LCD technology. However, a company named eCinema Systems has announced a new LCD technology that it claims surpasses CRT in virtually every respect (http://syphaonline.com/SYPHAnewsitems2006/SYPHAnews20060614-02.html?www.dailytech.com).

about time. But they don't mention a price for that 40 incher. Also...why release one that size and not a few at 24-30 range for desktop use?

i dunno, 40" desktop screen........nah maybe not lol (but then again)
still the price not being mentioned, and seeing as its the first gen of this technology, it will probably cost an arm and a leg.

There are a variety of new flat screen technologies that are going to compete with LCD advances. Some OLED and similar flat screen techmlogies are already in use.
"OLED displays are currently used in smaller devices, such as digital cameras, cell phones and electric shavers."

One of their benefits of OLED's are their low power consumption and better color reproduction than comparable LCD monitors. Being that it is a newer technology it will be a while before companies use this technology in numbers to compete with LCD's. OLED monitors are used in production for hand helds now with monitors slated in or around 2008.

well, Iīve been reading on the oledīs since 2002, where they predicted them to be on the market within 4 years.
as you know there is some more waiting going on and most likely longer then 2008.
these companies can make so much more money on the lcdīs before the will turn to oledīs.

I knew 2006 had become 2007, but 2008? For the love of toasted loaves they've been tinkering with this technology since 1986! :banghead:

So it'll be affordable 2009... It's not all bad though, atleast it means they'll coincide with the big switchover. (http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/en/when.html)

This thing is for reference-use, such as telecine and high-end compositing so expect very high price ranges, unless they make a cheaper version of the same technology I doubt we'll this type of monitor as consumer TV's. But there's always hope.. :D
I'll wait for SED unless this one comes out and surprise me. At the moment, plasma is still best :wip:
