I'm posting this in WIP for more covereage since I would like to get more general input.

My goal is to create the effect of a car driving in a wet environment. I've just started playing with some particle systems and I'll have an avi soon, but for now you can check out my full details as I work on it at : http://www.vi2.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=47

and please let me know if you have any suggestions about how to accomplish this and any comments about its progress. Again I am trying to develop and effect so that I can use it in a scene, please note that only the effect is being worked on... no real modeling/texturing/lighting of the scene will be done for it.

I just wanted to post this in WIP so that I can keep everyone updated with my progress.

Ok I got a chance to render out a quick preview.

DIVX 5 (about 225k)

The tire accelerates to frame 30 and stops at frame 60.
The splash at the end seems a bit uncontrolled still, but I think it shows the the splash coming out of the back is workiing fairly well. Any suggestions for controlling the forward motion of the splash would be appreciated.

i think it looks very realistic, the only problem i see is that it sort of looks like beads in the way they dont merge back together when they are done being thrown up, but the movement is great

Wow. Great movement, indeed!
The only problem is what RadiantWings already mentioned... But maybe the problem solves itself in a scene with an uneven spotty concret road.
So go on. Model the car and the street! :buttrock:

i think it looks great - it could use another system of 'facing' type particles to complete the hazy look at high speeds - but i think it's an excellent start

Nice stuff Aaron. By any chance could you tell us exactly how you did it. Guys like me are dying to know how you did that effect.

I agree that they should merge after being thrown up, and when hitting the ground they could break up or something, but not bounce. They look as though they are bouncing. Water doesnt bounce, it splashes. Looks wonderful though, just keep working on it, theres a reason its in the WIP section!!!
