View Full Version : An Action bug or is it just me?!
paragonent 06-15-2006, 09:29 AM I have 80 png files in a folder, with sizes from 1k to 3k. I want to reduce the file size.
If i apply an action to the folder, saving for web, i get increse in the file size from 2 to 4k, even if the optimized window shows filesizes from 300 to 600bytes.
if i apply the same save for web settings, not with an action, but on each file separately.....it works.....i get the real filesize 300 to 600 bytes.
what am i doing wrong?! let's say 80 files are ok...but if i have 2000 files...i reallly need an action :)
thanks in advance and good luck!

Hrm, I couldn't duplicate this with .jpgs or .pngs. Now granted they were larger in size (80k) the principle should still be the same. If I have a chance this afternoon I'll try it again with smaller files to see if that makes a difference.

i tried this and did not get this problem. Actions is just a stepping of functions already existing in PS (like you would if u did it manually) i think we all know this. So with that, an action doesnt change how a function works, just that it allows it to happen based on either preset values or manual changes such as filename when saving. So its very unlikely its the action causing this, more down to perhaps a way by which the file is written based on the calculations done in PS....theoretically it shouldnt be any different, as i just said an action just allows a function to happen.
I would try re-instally PS just to break down the problem to its most absolute begining. Then go from there. there are also two different types of png - or ways they are created("not interlaced" and "interlaced"), perhaps this is the root of the problem. This would be your next step after re-installing PS.
Hope this has helped.
