View Full Version : How can I create realistic architecture materials?

I'm not so good for texturing a model and I need help for architecture materials...
I will post the pic of the model later, but can someone can give me tips or tutorials about it?

Your best bet is to go out and actually take photographs of stone, concrete, mortor, and any other kind of material you think you would need. The real stuff is always the best to go by. Then take a copy and do a little tweeking and make it a bump map and poof you have your texture.

Just to add it is not only materials that make it look good it is lights.
You can have perfect texture, but without correct lights it will still look flat.

I agree with ww667 good part of the quality of the render comes from the light.
If you are serious about architectural renders you should look at vray, itīs a great renderer that IMO gives the best results vs. speed. You can download a free version (itīs a little outdated but works good) from www.chaosgroup.com and learn a bit about it, it is a good idea to learn from this free version and knowing that it works for your needs before buying the license.
3dtotal has some good and free tutorials as well as evermotion. The best tutorials could be found in Gnomon DVDs and the truth is they arenīt expensive, also think about buying some good material libraries like Arroway or Dosch (or take a lot of good and clean pictures of textures), some furniture and general props model library (or model everything yourself that in a tight deadline like almost everything in this type of work is almost imposible), and a HDRI library (Paul Debevecīs HDRI library works fine for most things http://www.debevec.org/ but there are some great libraries that you could buy for some specific tones/variations of color and light like Dosch or Sachform libraries).

In fact, i do have v-ray free version, it looks great but I don't wanna depend of a plugin that much!
