I’m a long time Wacom tablet user - 10 years with Art Pad on my Macs and 4 years with Intuos 2 on my PC. After using my Intous without any problems, in recent days I got a problem that doesn’t go away and I can’t fix it. Randomly, the line being drawn starts to wobble in a wave like pattern no matter how steady I hold the pen. This problem is completely random but occurs very often, in most cases it repeats, and sometimes it repeats a lot of times before I can draw steady lines again. Overall in a drawing session I have more wobbling than normal behavior and with the time it is getting worse as if the tablet gets magnatized. This occurs across different applications – I’m using mostly Photoshop, Illustrator, and Maya. I’m using the latest driver. I tried a lot of things to fix this; unplugging the tablet, switching USP port, switching programs, changing settings, changing and turning off/on pressure, applying strokes with different speed, pressure, tilt, regions on the tablet, etc. Although at some point it stabilizes and sometime for a while, I can’t find any particular thing that’s causes or fixes this. This is very annoying and impossible to work. I think it is dying and I’m considering repair and if that’s not possible, getting rid of it.

I wonder if anybody has ever experienced something similar. I also would appreciate any advice as to what would you do if you have a similar problem – I don’t even know if such thing as repair service for a Wacom tablet exists. I’m afraid that Wacom just replaces their products while under warranty, and anything else goes to the garbage. Do you now a tablet dedicated forum or newsgroup?

The images below illustrate clearly the problem. The wavy and the steady lines were drawn with the same speed, similar shape, pressure, and tilt. The trace on the tablet should make the steady lines.

Ok first dont drink and paint...Just kidding.

Its just a stab in the dark, have tried switching back to the original drivers? Or an earlier version? Maybe Wacom has kinda given up on fully testing the Intuos 2 on drivers made for newer versions. Also, I believe the tablet/pen work on radio frequencies, have you recently added a device or something near your workspace that could possibly interfering with the signal?

Just couple thoughts, If it isnt that I would say its time for a new tablet.

I wish I was rather drunk:)

Thank you for replying Cliff, I really appreciate your input.
I updated to the newest driver after the problem started which didn’t make a difference. I used the old driver for I think about a year but the problem started about a week ago. I haven’t added or notice anything new in my environment that may interfere with the signals. I just checked my pockets:). What I found out however is if I rub the tablet quickly with my hand it fixes the problem for a short while. Also the problem never occurs immediately after the computer is shut down for a night. In the morning it starts after about 15 – 30 min and then persists.
