View Full Version : Any Blender Pocket users here?
tufif 06-12-2006, 08:51 PM I recently purchased a ppc and stumbled upon blender pocket. It doesn't run on my ppc, but hopefully the new one will. Anyway, I got so excited by the possibility of a portable 3d production environment that I decided to try out the real blender to get a feel for the interface. Wow! this program is great! I have a pretty old version of lightwave that I got years ago as a gift and I never bothered to upgrade, but I like this better! I'm a blender convert now :)
Has anybody else here tried the pocket version? I hope the new version works on my device, then I could work on things between calls at work and then finish them at home.

But to me it seems more like a novelty idea than actual tool. Isn't the real estate in pda screen severely limited for doing almost anything graphical? I mean, there's enough room to show a reasonably sized picture, but all the tool panels and the picture..?
Welcome to Blenderworld. It is a remarcable app. I started using it a bit over a year ago, and I still feel I have just schratched the surface. A lot of possibilities.

The screen is more significant than it would first appear on a PDA. Not that every Blender project would be appropriate for such a small screen, but I know from other programs that I use that you can see more than you would think. And, of course, there's always zooming in and out.
I'm hoping some day someone will develop Blender for the Palm platform!

If I remember right, in blender you can "draw" commands on the screen with the mouse instead of hitting keys, for example: dragging a straight line with your left mouse button held grabs the selected object. Very similiar to the pda function of writing letters on a screen and having them appear as text. If the portable version of blender utilizes that also then you could hide a couple of the tool panels and have more of the screen dedicated to "3D View."
I'm still very new to Blender and haven't tried the PDA version yet myself so I can't say myself if that will work or not

The new version is out and it works great on my handheld. I'm still trying to get used to the button configuration and everything, but it's working. This'll help me pass time at work :)
