Well I know I have a lot of other stuff to do like learning exams but I just couldn't resist entering the challenge.

Here goes my creature.

He isn't one which lives like the human race.
Actually there is know little about him. In the water... he seems to talk through sonar, those that have never been heard.
Although this creature is no special all around these magical and long living creatures of middle earth, he tells us a fragrance of the story of Middle earth....
Once there was fluorescing time in which his population grew big in which he lived not only at the coasts of Tolfalas, the Detla of Ethir Anduin but strangely enough he also was spotted in the Sea of Nurmen and the Island of Himling (his breading place).
After the first big war his race was vanished from the shores of the Sea of Nurmen as well as from the Detla of Ethir Anduin. Some of the little remaining stories tell us that they were held in herds and slaugtered for food for the big armies of Souron.
After 3 era’s his race slowly recovered but one strange thing, as is said by the elves, they migrated away with the elves ship.
None was heard of them eversince

Sorry didn't make andy scetches.. At least if you talk of a paper and pencill one.
A idea for the animal popped in my mind and I just made a quick thingy in 3D so I consider that as my scetch..
c below. and thanks : )

>> 3ddy,
You may say your/ our community.
Maybe it is an Idea to make a shot were the two creatures meet or so? Just one with the two of them, would be an Idea?:lightbulb

:wavey: ...................Hi Iquiniz.X............ Nice to see you are in. I like the idea/story very much. It's got alot of mystery to the creature,a real mythical type being. It sounds as if it will be a creature of considerable size and originality. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

EDIT:............hey you just posted at the same time as I......It does have size...........:) Looks good. Keep going, bring this big boy to life.:)

>> Virtuoso,
Man good to c you again,
I think you just missed my consept update.(due to posting at the same time)
Glad you like the story very much, since you are a writer yourself.

Was thinking of making a shot from below the creature with a baby of its sort and some contours of same creatures far off and This shot is to c the surface of the sea from underwather and the bottom of a elf boat migrating......Don't think this makes any scence does it.
Well I make a consept drawing soon.

Xavier

P.S.
You are gonna join, aren't you?
And how is your book doing?

Virtuoso
01-12-2003, 09:54 PM
Yes it does make sense. I understand,I think that would be a original shot. The bottom of the sea is a beautiful place ( As long as you have some kind of air ;) ).........You can show beams of light that shine through the ocean surface and cut there way through to the bottom of the ocean floor. With your creature swimming through the scene. Nice idea you have there, keep up the work and ideas,it's sounding good.

There is sooooo much talent around here, some of the best in the CG World. It's alot of fun to watch and see the characters grow. But it sure is tempting to enter myself. I have thought out and drawn some rough concepts, thinking about joining in on the fun myself. I am busy with my re-write for a couple parts of my up-coming books. Also creating more on my Private project for my CG art demo reel. But................With 7 weeks for this challenge it sure does give me enough time to create a little something...........But with me it's always got to be something more grand,my visions always seem to have a life of there own, they always expand as I go. I will decide by tomorrow if I will join.

Well keep going,it's got my interest already,I'll be back after your next update.

Nice angle. With high details in plant life, lighting, creature details,it will be fantastic. Move in this direction Iquiniz...............It looks right, and speacial. Grand and detailed, the only way to go. Go sleep now, update tomorrow,I'll be back then. Fine start.

it looks cool...but...WHERE ARE YOU!!! UPDATE IT!! GOOOO:bounce:

Fine start.............Just get into the details from here I think IQuinez.X.................I think the whole premise or idea is a very good one. I like the thoughts on camera angles and the entire set idea.

I think for this praticular challenge you should go with a more fantasy type being.Add some extra " Out there" touches to the creature. Just a thought,I don't know exactly what you are thinking at this moment.

Mix in fantasy, add magic touches to your character/creature. Think of what such a beast would look like in the Tolkian universe.:)

Exotic gear,weapons,or devices,etc,etc...

Anyways I'll keep an eye out for your thread, and hope to see your beast continue to develope. Nice thus far, just keep adding details.

>>Robert.,
Thanks a lot, yes it is really an earaly state of what I'm planning to do with the scene.

>>-OZ-,
Eh were am I? Well having a hard time... finished a paper and a maquette this weekend. Besides that I have to learn for a reexam wich I really failed the first time.. This time I need to pass it. But when that all is over I promisse more updates. I promisse:blush:

>>Virtuoso,
To be honest with you. It is quite an anti climax creature, because it has no magic things or what so ever.
I wanted to make something creature like and normal.... not as magical, really gruell or adoring creature as so many. Just an creature wich lives in the world affected by history, adapts to it cos it has no greater abilities to defend itself. ( but it needs some mystery that surrounds it, wich will give it an mythical thing over it. Well mythical also is given by its size.

But I think you are right. I should bring some more fantasy in the creature. Maybe no weapons or gear but something more originall......
Was thinking of body parts with are translusent.. and with this camera angle it could look really cool... but I just heap my project up with things I still have to learn so maybe something more basical

For now I have to study my exam.......:annoyed:

Hi Iguiņiz.X.

Ummm... your model is coming along okay, but I'm not really posting to crit.

I am actually posting to ask that you please add something unusual to this character - at the moment, in my opinion, it does not really suit this challenge. At the moment, it is simply a whale. We stipulated in the rules that the creatures were not to resemble any pre-existing Tolkien character, and I know this isn't a Tolkien character, but we made that rule so that people would create characters that are unique.

I would like you, therefore, to add something to this character - modelling-wise - that makes it more unique and unusual, and thereby more suited to this challenge.

You gave this fantastic, intriguing story in the beginning, and have now basically shown us a creature that is a basic whale. Let's spice it up a bit!

Thanks a lot! :)

i agree er yah

seriously though make it look ancient or somthing prehistoric. middle earth. Think of creatures like ents and such...Your creating a beast from the land where gods walked.

tuna
01-26-2003, 04:46 AM
agreed with leigh.

atm it looks kinda like a default model from god's own 3d model collection, how about making it totaly surreal? supprise us.

KingMob
01-26-2003, 04:51 AM
yeah I agree with leigh, but you could make this into something really cool. Right now its sorta just, there...like anormal whale. If you wanted to make it more middle earthie I would think about what it would need to live, maybe thats jsut detailing? if its sentient (like a human, or ent) give it some tools, or decorations...

I think just making it a little more fantasy would add a lot to this guy.

I liek the big fins right now, is he gonna leap from the oceans?

if so, think about what it would really take to get a critter of his mass out of the water, or why he would leave in the first place, does he ever leave the water for extended time?

Just right now it feels like it could be an animal that would be of no consequence...like if someone modeled a sparrow...sure they could exist in Middle earth, but why do we care? you almsot have something really cool here, push it a little bit further man!

Modeling looks good so far, and Like I said, I dont think it would take to much work to make it great.

>>Thanks for your consern,

As I mentioned in a reply to Virtuoso:

>>Virtuoso,

>>tuna and killahsin,

Lol, it looks quite like a rip of whale creature:hmm: ,
Not that I had that in mind or used as a refrence when I tought of the creature.. I first thought of herd of the sea... something like cows.

>>Leigh,
I have been strugling a bit with the looks so I tried to add the bigger fins and was thinkin of combined creature Bird-Whale.
Flying through the water. You know those flying fish that can fly like 10 seconds above the water...I'm not sure but ain't they arround South-Africa? But something like that to.
Then again I when I came up with the model I didn't use any ref material nor the idea of making a whale..more like a sea herd cow creature.

But don't worry this isn't the final stage of the evolution of my creature.... I'm quite sure some generations will be quite revolutionair ;)

>>KingMob,
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes I was thinking of a him flying out of the sea for making a loop and fal back in the sea..Funy thing you mentioned a sparow.
Thanks a gain and 'll push it further

It really is a shame but since my last post I just couldn't find any time to work on the moddel nor the environment...
Just got a more or less water surface effect which satisfies me a bit..

Due to a start of a new study semseter and other stuff like looking for new a NEW HOUSE (studenten huis) in Utrecht I won't be able to finish this challenge.
It is a shame, because of the nice plans I had in mind:cry:

Good luck in the challenge and I hope I get a new house before next challenge:annoyed:
