Title: "Inanimate objects, do you have a soul?"
Name: jean-françois barthélémy
Country: France
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop

I used 1950's child's objects. I hardly worked on the composition to create a nostalgic feeling.
This is a student work.

good work , i realy like the nostalgic mood, it look like old 60's technicolor image, (tu voit ce que je veut dire !), but the black shadow seem to me very dark an unrealistic and the floor need more volume and bump, the wall too, voila, globally nice work continue like that

A good question, does movement imply spirit? Supposedly, the Japanese often experience a spirit even in inanimate objects.

Maxwaver7, the way I see it, jayf has simulated a flash, that's why the shadow is behind the object. It might not be apparent enough though, maybe overexpose to get the right tone?

I think you've succeeded very well in the materials, and a good subject matter. :)

Very unusual render. It makes it looks like a painting. I like it.

Thank you for your replies,
tiber> thx ^^
maxwaver7> je vois ce que tu veux dire ;-) It was my primary goal
Like bitBrain said, I tried to simulate a sort of flash, or at least an artificial light. I wanted to create a sort of saturate/old photo feeling (It's hard to give words on my work in english, well I think you understood :-).

bitBrain> Very good question in fact... I think objects live throught our memories. These things were owned by my family when they used to live in algeria but they does represent lot of things for me.
This is a piece of a famous poem by Alphonse Lamartine:
"Inanimate objects, do you have a soul
which sticks to our soul and force it to love?"
