Hey all, i am new to cg talk, I 've being playing with max for about 3 months, ..

Now, i need some help with how to make a Bent Tue, I've downloaded this from Tips and Tricks thread : Someone was asking how to make a bent tube and cut these notches out of it.... here's how.
Right click and save as - flash file - 1.53mb

But that dosn't help me, since it's halfway through. Can any1 tell me where to go to get that thing going, like in that tutorial??
Thx :wip:

What exactly are you trying to make? Just a bent tube? Create a Cylinder then apply the Bend modifier? :)

Not a bend modifyer, that can only bend once, then u have to join lot's of tubes to get wat u want,

Have u seen the 1 mb tutorial on the Tips And Tricks Thread??
it's at the start, that's how i wanna do it, but it dosn't show how!
Have a look at it if u dont mind, and then u might be able o help me :)

Thx:bounce:

can u post the link?

Also I think you may be refering to a technique called lofting. Lofting will allow you to create "bent" tubes with multiple segments.

If you have any specific questions about what you are trying to accomplish, it will be easier to help you.

Thats pretty simple actually.... what part of it do you need an explnation on?

Creating the notches (i'm going to assume is your question), is pretty easy, let me try to explain it some

Ok first off i have no clue what technique he is using to create the bent tube part. It can be done several ways like lofting or using several extrudes... I think there may also be a plugin script for doing something like that. But thats not the hardpart anyway.

Just for the example, start with a basic cylinder with like 3 height segments. Convert it to a Editable Poly and go into the subobject mode

In polygon mode, select the middle polygons around the tube... now use the scale tool to scale that portion down. This is all he is really doing.

He's done it one a bit more complex cylinder and is using something called chamfer to add a new segment so he can get a hard edge....

If you would like I could probably write it up in a bit more detial with some pics... let me know.
