View Full Version : Savvy or Bible?
Hi, I'm new to Maya but learning quite good with the tutorials from the program. However I'd like to buy a book that covers all aspects of Maya 4.5. For 3ds max 4 I bought the Bible wich I liked very much. So I'm considering buying the Bible for Maya (4.5 I hope).
Now I saw that there is also the Maya 4.5 Savvy coming soon. Wich would be best? Or what are the big differences between them?
thanks

The Maya Savvy book is probably more advanced and will not cover as many basics as say Maya 4.5 Fundamentals.
well, there is just no way I'm buying the fundamentals book. I saw it for other programs and I didn't like it at all! If I want a book to get me started, I'd choose the visual quickstart wich is very good to get you going.
I'm looking for the best book that covers about everything. Then I can just look something up that I'm stuck at and get back to my work. I know the Bible can do this for me, but I wanted to know what the Savvy has to offer me.
Anyone know that book?

Well there is also the pending Real World Maya 4.5 book which trys to cover Maya from the standpoint of a production for a short. However I would say that it impossible for one book to really cover every aspect of Maya in depth. Also the autheros of the Fundametals series differ from appplicaiton to application so if you didn't like the 3dsMax fundamentals boooks the authors are different for the Maya fundamentals.
I have the previous book by John Kundert-Gibbs Maya: Secrets of the Pros and it kind of jumps around alot. I haven't seen the new one but I'm sure it has some nuggets in it.
Are you on the Mac? It may not make a difference but isn't the bible for the MacOsX?
I use a PC.
The Bible I bought doesn't cover everything in detail, but mostly it gives me enough explanation to move on or learn how it works.
The Real world 4.5 book seems too advanced for me now.
I'll just wait a few days for the Savvy to come out, then read some reviews of it.
thx anyway
