View Full Version : rigging question (IK Spline)
I'm trying to rig my dragon, and for the head and for the tail I wanna use a IK spline solver.
But the problem is I can apply it only in one direction, from the wings to the head, and not from the head to the wings.
And now I can't move the last control vertex......so I'm not able to move the head up and down which is very important for my dragon
Any ideas how I could solve this problem?

To manipulate a spline IK you have to select the splines CV's to say move the head around.. if you could grab the handle then you might as well just use a regular IK handle.

no, in my experience it doesn't have to go from a root node. just made a quick test with a skeleton like yours and it just works fine.
do you let the curve autocreate or use a created one ??
autocreate
should I create one first?

Can you make two separate solvers,...one controling the head and one for the tail?
Do you have to use only one?
I will use two IK's.....thats not the problem
the problem is that the IK goes in the wrong direction

Do you have to use a Spline IK for the neck?
Couldn't you just use FK?
Is there going to be a benefit by using a spline IK in this situation?
Just curious.

Maya doesn't care which end you click first but it still puts the handle downstream.

In this case you probably could use FK as easily.. if you have a more snakelike neck you would want alot of joints ..to many to control with FK.. so you'd apply a splie IK and then maybe even create another low res joint chain to control that.. it depends on how much flexlibility it needs.
hm, maybe FK would be better....but I still want to know if it is possible to reverse the spline IK?

I still understand why you think you need to reverse it???
hope the picture explains what i mean

As I allready stated you do not use the handle when using a spline IK .. you use the yellow CV's to position the spline which controls the joints. I don't know why they even bother to show the handle as it is redundant.
It sounds to me that unless you really plan to have the neck be really flexible that IK or FK would be better for you. If you want to use the handle use IK rather than the spline.
arg....just checked my error
I couldn't move the last CV because it always selected the handle.......after hiding the IK handles I can move the cv :D
I'm sooo stupid ;)
sorry for that :hmm:
