View Full Version : Maya Crashing While Unwrapping UV's
NyneDown 06-10-2006, 07:19 PM I'm trying to unwrap my UV's, and while sorting them out within the UV texture editor...a window keeps popping up saying "Out of Memory" and then Maya freezes up. I have 2 gigs of memory, so I find it hard to believe that would be the case. Here's some of the specs of my "unit":
Intel Pentium 4 Processor w/ Hyper Threading Technology
2.80 GHz processor speed
2.0 gigs of RAM.
I tried deleting the history on the model but that didnt work, and I also exported the model and imported it into a new maya scene. Each time, within 10 minutes or so of working....it freezes. If anyone out there has an idea of how to work around this, or knows a quick fix, I'll greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried checking out your script editor to see if theres any wierdness?

Hey, thanks for the reply man :)
I checked the script editor and everything looked normal, and I also tried a few other things to figure out what was going on and nothing worked. So I stepped away from the pc, went to the movies and saw X-men 3 (supa' dope movie..haha) came back, and tried working on the problem again. This time everything was cool, no crashing, no freezing. The next day I started working again and it started to crash and freeze, I looked at the time and noticed it was the same exact time as when it started doing that the first time. It turns out Norton Anti-Virus was in the background running "live updates" and apparently uses quite a bit of memory to do so. And I guess when you're working inside the UV texture editor within maya, it also requires quite a bit of memory. So that was what the problem was....I just disabled Norton while I was working and enabled it when I was done....I know, sounds stupid huh? haha....I'm just glad I got it figured out though. Thanks again for your help :)

Ah yes, maya is a very greedy proggy, always disable that atuo update crap from norton, and any auto update downloader fixer etc etc from any program for that matter, maya should be the only thing running in the backround when you run it really.
its greedy like that
