Hey all. This is my first time posting on these boards, but I visit here alot to try to learn a thing or two. This fall I started teaching myself how to 3d model using Cinema 4D. I thought this challenge would be a good time to show some of my work and get some tips and suggestions on how to do things better.

I decided to make a race of ice people that live up north somewhere. I haven't made up a story or anything yet just have some concept sketches and a head I modeled real fast. This is what I've done so far in the little time I have off of work.

Thanks. :)

I am still pretty new at 3d but am kinda learning the ropes. I don't build stuff much like the tutorials I see but things seem to look ok. The body will be the test for me because I have yet to successfully make a body that looks good.

Here's an update. Been working on the torso and arms. Still need to build the hands and body from waist down. Still learning these boards so hope the pic shows up =) If not, I'll have my friend post it on his site again.

That's a cool concept, and it looks like you are off to a good start so far. Now you just need to get in there and start giving the body some more detailed definition

good start, bud, i think, you must do some chainging with anatomy ... e.g. arms...

Another update. I spent all day rebuilding and reshaping his arms, neck and chest trying to give it more definition. Keep in mind that I want his forarms to be massive, kinda like my concept drawings. What do you think?

Great style! I like the look of him especially the angular face. I can see you're already having fun with the textures as well! Keep it coming!

Thank for all the positive comments and suggestions. I just made some alien type hands and experimented with some shoulder spikes. Man, I need to get away from this cpu today.

very good stuff, the texture makes me think of a certain terminator character that will remain safely anonymous ;o) i like the stylized muscalture as well, just one question....what happens if these guys come south to help out the rest of lotr bunch , do they melt? ;)

Thx Zedd. These Ice people don't care what happens to any other races besides theirs. They will only attack if their territory is invaded.

Thanks :) Glad you like him. I have to work fast on my days off because of days like today where I have to work and go to school. I will try to have another update up by the end of the week.

Just added some legs. I still have some reshaping to do and still trying to figure out how i want the feet to look. I'm probably going to to give them the ninja turtle-ish look that the hands have.

Added the feet finally. Now I am going to add some more minor details such as ice-cycle spikes and maybe some ice weaponry. Then I have to read through some boning and texturing tutorials.

He, that's some nice stuff. I like those comic-style proportions, well-integrated  keep it up.

Thanks m@. I always wanted to be a comicbook artist through middle school and highschool. I studied comics so much that all of my work looks this way now if I want it to or not. For you to say that my stuff looks comic-like is a big complement.

i like that kind of body proportions, i imagine it animated with quick and solid movements.. it would be great!

Yo crime,

Looking really good, best 3D I've seen from you yet. Just keep refining, don't let the comments about how fast you work make you think that's a requirement. You do really good work really fast. This project will turn out to be really great work if you take the time and refine.

You've got 'em all beat anyway.

Thanks Devil. I was about to smash something last night learning to bone so I am taking a short break. So when are you going to post something here?

Crime101
01-20-2003, 04:07 AM
Well, I abandoned the snowy idea and decided to stick with just ice on my guy. The snow took away from something. I redid the ice texture to give it more shine and specularity and am expirementing with cracks throughout his body.

BlueCougar

He looks really good. Are you going to fashion some ice weapons for him as well?

Crime101
01-20-2003, 06:35 AM
I was originally going to make him be able to form his arms into different weapons but i might give him a big ice spear or staff just to because guys holding staves always look cool :) Any suggestions?

That is a really nice model you have there.
I liked the spikes ont eh earlier picture

Ok, popular demand has brought the shoulder spikes back and I also have been tinkering with the snowy/frosty texture over the ice.

Devilution

Texture looking interesting. In fact it looks really good, like a lot of work went into it.

I don't like the shoulder spikes as they are, they look as though not much work went into them. The idea has potential, don't think it's executed as nicely as the rest of the model though.

I saw more thought in the curve of the shoulder than I do in the spikes. There's popular demand for eminem, too.

Nice snow flakes though

reminds me too much of glacius from killer instinct. nice job so far though

Crime101

One of my friends said he reminded him of Glacius too. I just wanted to do an ice character and it is kinda hard to make a guy made of ice and not have it remind you of Glacius. I'll try and think of something to do to him to make him a little more different.

great one!!!
very muscular and very cool!

Thanks dies-irae. Possitive posts like that make me feel better about the days I've lost reading tutorials and experimenting with things to get this far on this project. Before entering this challenge, I've never modeled a successful body so I'm pretty happy with what I've accomplished. Its always good to hear that other people like your work, it helps fight the burnout.
