Okay, I am sure every one has heard this before, but....
A freind of mine who is seriously involved in 3d animation has setup a copy of maya 7 for me to use. I guess what I am asking is for some basic starting points to learn. I understand
Maya is the type program that no one will ever know how to completely use it. So If any body can give me some good pointers I would be greatly appriciated. Are Motion builder and 3ds max basically a scaled down version of what Maya can do? Thanks for the help.

The first thing you need to learn is how the UI works. If you want to be specialized in something, then I recommend you buying a DVD that helps you get started in that specific area. For example,if you want to be specialised in animation, you could buy the gnomon character animation series.Don't get too deep into learning the app,so if you know everything about the app,it won't really help you with creating awesome animation. So when you know the app enough to get started, then go into the basics of animation (I recommend you the book the animators survival kit).Good luck:thumbsup:
