View Full Version : Building Render Nodes, Need suggestions Please.

I'm building 4 to 6 dual processor render boxes to be used with Mental Ray for Maya and Maya's software renderer. My systems person will be putting them together, but I'd like to get some idea of what some of you are using for your farms. Here's the specs:

32 bit system (main components):
ASUS Mobo
Dual Xeon 3.8 GHZ 800mhz FSB
3 gigs ddr333 ecc ram (maximum for XP)
120 Gig SCSI hard drive
ati ogl card
Rackmounted

Here's a couple more questions.
Are there any advantages of going 64 bit yet?
Have any of you used the Intel Core 2 Extreme processors yet, if so how do the compare to the Xeon?
