Finished it! <phew>. This was a major rush job and just last night I had thought I had lost everything. (due today at the TV stations by 12:00). _rush_ held my hand on #Messiah3D and together we managed to figure out what happened. Thank you Taron and Dan for figuring out the specifics. I hope this helps fix the issue and that no one else has to go through what I did. Talk about scarry!

Anyway! It all turned out. [Ecto], Layer01 and Blackbrd_ were kind enough to help me get it rendered. Got it done by the skin of my teeth. Thank you IRC and Skype! :D

For how complex the model is. . . it rendered pretty fast. Around 1:30 on the faster machines. Its 100% Messiah's renderer. Vroom! 2 bounce GI. . . 5X AA. The "skin" of the Cactus is Darktree. . .

If you live in Arizona it should start airing Tomorrow on all the local stations. If anyone sees it let me know.

Love the needle action, looks pretty sick. although the lighting on the cactus was at odds with the black environment, but im sure you were pretty limited for legibility etc... anyway GREAT JOB! dont you just love rush jobs?

Nicely done, Willy! And as a matter of fact, I was in the SouthWest on vacation last week and saw plenty of Cacti!

Question, I noticed the narrator said "I sound Silly" but the card read "You sound silly" ... was that on purpose? :)

The whole who is saying what thing was very confusing for me as well. On my first round I thought the Cactus was talking. . . and I had him nodding and bobbing etc. Well. . . apparently there is an announcer talking somewhere off camera. So then I thought the Cactus was holding the signs up FOR the announcer. So I asked them the same thing you did. . . "Why does it say "you sound silly" when these are the cards that the announcer is reading from." Well apparently these AREN'T the cards he is reading from. . . and he is just off to the side reading them and the Cactus is just there. . . flipping through cards.

So odd.

But. . .

What are you going to say? "This idea is dumb I'm not going to accept your money." ?

So I did the best with what I had. :-)

That does sound a bit confusing. But, I agree ... gotta bring home the bacon. :)

Nice job!

It looks like a "simple" character, so that prompts me to ask if there were any issues that necessitated going beyond a simple rig....did you use any other messiah tools to control the mesh?

And let's applaud the agency for trying a creative visual approach by having the cactus character. They could have gone many "ordinary" routes. We'd all be a lot busier if more agency people didn't think so limited and literal when they approach concept creation.

Best,
Rick

Nice. I did get the "you sound silly" element. For some reason I find the right hand(paw?)
movement when grabbing the cards rather cute and humrous.

Thanks everyone. :-)

I hope to see some work from some others. I think its pretty important to share what Messiah can do NOW considering all this talk about other software MAY do in the future.

catizone: Its a VERY basic rig. One leg. . . feet never leave the ground. Makes it interesting to animate thats for sure. :-) I DID have to create my own expressions for the shoulders to get them to bend and move right but it was VERY very basic/easy.

One cool thing that I did was use a proxy model to animate with and then just added the more complex model with all the spikes in at the end when I was happy with the animation. Only takes a few clicks and speeds up the animation process considerably.

Anyway thank you everyone. I hope this inspires others to share more.

Nice job Wegg, I liked your first one you did as well. It is nice to see some production made with Messiah. The cactus is super, I would like to know how you created the needles with Darktree.

Darktree was just the cactus skin. It was a bit overkill for D1 resolution but when you blow the cactus up nice and big. . . you can see all the nifty little scratches and details the shader provides.

The spikes were done with Random Cloner. Its a Lightwave Plug-in.
