- Duplicate the sphere and scale it outwards a bit. Then set it up so it gets more transparent towards the edges.
- Or, put a volume omni/point light inside it and set it up so it doesn't get blocked by the sphere and so it falls off right outside the sphere.
- Or, take your sphere into Photoshop or After Effects or whatever and comp on a disc with a gradient on the edges.
