View Full Version : Text?!
rsalonen 03-12-2002, 01:11 AM Yes, I know how to make a shape of text, but how do I extrude it? Yes yes, I know I can use Bevel. But it looks like complete crap!
Does anyone know how to make GOOD looking text? Any tutorial, any tip? This is driving me nuts, a proffesional program can't even make good looking text in a non-hyper-advanced-way.
What's the best method to make the text in, Polys? Nurbs? Subdiv?
Sorry for my attitude right now, but I'm tired.

ummm it's not really that hard. If you are outputtin curves, they are just curves, and you can model with them just like any other nurbs curve. You can loft, birail, extrude, trim, what ever. If you out put to poly, just select the faces and extrude, want to bevel it, select the edges and bevel, or make another extrusion and scale with the move component tool.

Thanks allot Lyr.
Going to work more on it when I wake up tommorrow ;)
NowInc: Yes I downloaded that plugin, thou, I didn't know where to put the files :p so I wasn't able to install it....going to look into that more later...
Had some trouble using the bevel plus script. Ending in "not to satified state"
Very cool I'll admit (especially since UI is near exactly same as Invigorator)
But the tight areas in certain types/fonts became hard for bevel plus to interpolate correctly. Needs more work. For now quicker to do it manually like Lyr mentioned.
About where to put the script:
Place the mel in the >maya>scripts Then the little pics under icons. ALthough sometimes the mel will need to be placed under plugins folder insted. So...
Easy way to be sure is copy to both then figure out which one to delete after you have it working.
This is explained on the maya community portion of alias's site as well.
