what i'm trying to do is align an airplane to a text spline....i can do it but it only does the 1st letter of the word...can't find connecting letters to make a whole word. any ideas around this? tried freehanding a spline word, but it is sloppy looking. thanks.

You will need to animate the segment value in the align to spline tag. By default Align to Spline will work only on the first segment (#0=

what value should i make the segment? it now moves over all the letters....but it only does part of the letters. where would this be covered in the manual (the segment part...not just the align to spline part...i've got that part)...i've been looking but cant find....i seem to retain the info more if i can follow it in the manual. if its not in there thats ok.

You will have to check for the number of segment your spline has and go thorugh all of them.
Let's say you have only three segments (that would be a "B" for example)
1. Set segment to 0 ans animate position from 0 to 1
2. Set segment to 1 ans animate position from 0 to 1
3. Set segment to 2 ans animate position from 0 to 1

This way all three segments will be used one after the other for their full length.

However for smoke writing i would create an own spline by hand, no sky writer will write in an outlined type ;)

about the freehand words...ill try some more on it, but it seems like im in 1st grade again trying to learn how to write...lol.....really sloppy.

ok i did the free hand way instead of animating segments like you said. and the sloppyness clears up a little when i add the smoke, looks more realistic and is readable.....so i guess ill just stick with this. thanks srek for ideas.
