Count me in aswell. Not sure where I'm going with this, but maybe when my brain gets back on monday I can come up with something. here's a start...

An update, and some back story...
A mishap of love shared between a blind elf & an aging wizard introduced a race of creatures named Slacken to middle earth. Like their mother they share a piece of her blindness; barely able to see at all in lighted areas. In each birth a piece of the father's magic was passed as well, and a creature known as Gimblin are born beside each Slacken. Throughout the years of future generation, it has become inevitable to separate the two. They have bonded closely enough to share emotion, feeling, & even sight. However, once parted from their Gimblin creatures, they are poisoned with rage & hatred. It is for this reason they avoid all contact outside their race.
Below is an example of the smaller of the race. It admonishes a great sense of speed & agility.

Great idea man..
Dude..ya have such an unique style...just great!!!!
Keep it going:bounce:
I like your style, and I like the little creature for sure. I'm just not sure that this fits into the LOTR realm that well. The main character looks a little to "hip-hop" for my tastes.
It's still early ... so I'm sure you'll do something great with it. Keep going Slacker!

thanks guys. I hope I won't let you down. More to come. Hopefully when I bring the whole scene together it will look a lot more LOTR.

I like also the distance you are putting from your concept to LOTR.
Instead of "another" so you have a "unique", an your own stuff
I like it
01-14-2003, 09:10 PM
Yeah man keep ya own LOTR style... more individual!!!!

Put him in a background Slacker! He won't see it but I will.
01-15-2003, 03:59 AM

I started creation of a larger/stronger Slacken. Very Wip, but here it tis anyway.

Oh yeah thats better. Better feel to it. Reminds me of older Zelda images. I'm a big Zelda fan. My only crit is why didn't you close some of those lines? I think you should try it dude.
01-17-2003, 04:13 AM
:) And another update. I closed a few lines & added some stuff - like a face. Still no background... Maybe I'll start a girl slacken next... Lot of time left...
01-17-2003, 11:47 AM
I think ya should give him a blindfold(Spelling?) then shades..
Anyway this turns out great,... and hope to see the Lady slacken soon.
01-17-2003, 06:38 PM
Thanks! Ya, I know the shades got to go... Was trying for a thin blindfold. Didn't come out like I wanted.
CgFreak: the line - I use Illustrator 10 - the paintbrush tool & a wacom give you these lines. For thiner lines, have to use the pencil tool.
Tommy Lee: me too, me too...

Well, I figured I try something completely different. Since I've never really used Painter, I figure I'd give it a go. Very wip, and rushed, but an attempt none the least...

and I'm back... My brains been very distracted here lately. I got a little off subject and started creating this creature below. Big furry thing, with a human head grafted inside his mouth area...
and, in case your wondering, above is the work of Paint Shop Pro & the smudge tool... here's a closeup of the human head.

will we see more of this strange beast??? probably not.
01-28-2003, 02:13 AM
Looks like your onto something, what, I don't know but it looks cool.
But smudge tool=Evil in my opinion
Keep it up:thumbsup:

You got plenty of time to develop this one Slacker. Nice start. As for the smudge tool, I see nothing wrong with it. It depends on what kind of painter you are. Those that don't use it, I would think paint more like Degas, and those that do, probably paint more like David. I'm some where in between. I use it at times, the same way I'd use a brush to spread out oil paint thinly over a another dried layer.
01-30-2003, 03:18 AM
hey thanks guys. I like the smudge, but I have a hard time getting anything passed a cool look to come out of it. It's kind of like a fun filter. Maybe in a couple of years I'll have the painting skills to combine with it... :arteest:
Anyways, back on track, I did start making a girl slacken today... here's the beginings. hopefully more updates soon.
02-02-2003, 12:10 AM
More updates... Still got to fix some stuff, but the final composition will probably involve these three. cheerz.
02-02-2003, 07:29 AM
This comes along really great..totally unique chars. Fit well together.
02-03-2003, 04:38 AM
thank ya Tommy.
Another update... I still need to make the blindfolds look less like shades, lighten around the girl's creature, and learn how to paint backgrounds. c&c welcome.

that looks better Slacker. Good to see you working on the backgrounds!
02-10-2003, 02:48 AM
 still learning how to paint backgrounds... I kind of like the look of this one better...
02-10-2003, 04:48 AM
I also have to say that the 2nd one is better. Some details, tweakings and ya done. Great piece man.
02-10-2003, 04:32 PM
Yep, i think the snowy landscape is better too. Your characters are very stylized, neat shapes, and the grassy environment donīt suit them. But the look too naked for that cold climate...
The little pets are great
02-12-2003, 07:05 PM
Thank you Tom & Pancreas. Your right about the clothes... I'll get back to work and see what I can come up with. This has been a great challenge.
02-24-2003, 12:36 AM
I completly re-painted the characters, and desided on a better background. It is going to be a pastel misty background. Now, if i can find time to finish...
02-24-2003, 02:13 AM
I hope you can finish it Slacker. This final one looks good, just gotta tighten it up.
02-28-2003, 05:06 AM
Thanks to all that cheered me on.
Here is my final, still alot I should have tweaked - just didn't happen. cheerz.
