So if I take a layer and say Flip Horizontal (in the edit -> transform menu) it flips the layer, and uses the center of whatever's on the layer as the pivot point for the flip. Is there a way to flip the layer based on the center of the canvas? Sort of like how the flip canvas function works, except applied to only a single layer?

Creatin a new layer, filling with whatever color, linking both and flipping, deleting the new layer afterwards should do it.

Selecting all, then flipping should also work.

Use edit/free transform. While you are in free transform mode, move the pivot point to the center of the canvas (if you make guides before transforming it helps). Right click on the image and choose the flip you want.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, only the first tip works with shapes (which is what I have in this particular example), but I'll keep them all squared away for uses in other situations.

Moving the pivot in free transform mode works on a shape layer, I just tried it.

Weird, didn't seem to work the first time I tried it. But it's working now. Must have been doing something dumb :) Thanks.
