View Full Version : Any utilities that will find audio files by bitrate?

I have a fairly large media library that I would like to chop down to size. Over the years, I've accumulated many things of low-quality and I was wondering if there are any utilities out there that can find files based on bitrate?

???.. cant you just use any media player.. wmp, itunes,..etc. add a "sort by" colum @ the top
and sort by bit rate..? yes. a windows folder with all your mp3's can do it even.. or am i not
understanding your question... ?

EDIT: i do notice after looking however.. things encoded in VBR (Variable Bit Rate) show as 0-bit rate
in windows folders.

EDIT again:.. a windows folder only seems to see the bit rate of .WAV's..
Uncompressed/Encoded files.. but any player can sort em.

Media Catalog Studio Lite allows you to manage all your music files on your PC, as well as up to 5 AudioCDs. It can search your computer for media files and automatically create a catalog that lets you access files by artist, category, year, bitrate and many other aspects.

I'm actually a Winamp person and have not seen such a function. Itunes has been very unstable on my system so I'd prefer not to use it. Next off.... I see a lot of programs out there that can sort and catalog by bitrate but all of the ones I've seen will not let me delete the file right from the list window and forces me to manually find the file using Windows Explorer.....

itunes has two things that will help you. The first is that you can display the bitrate in a column, and the second is that you can view all duplicate songs.

Here you can move them directly to the trash.

But if itunes doesn't work well on your machine I don't know...Have you tried a more recent version?

WOW. Okay, I gotta figure out how to get itunes working so I can go ahead and do some sorting and deleting..... much thanks for pointing that out. Didn't know itunes was able to work in that fashion.

Quite the eclectic taste you've got there Max--I approve! Got everything from Bach to the Who to Silverchair to Fiddy myself :p

finally got itunes working and it worked like a charm.... the find duplicate songs was real weird though.... the problem is that the files i collected were never named in a consistent manner and have screwed up id3 tags.... it was pulling up strange things .... real strange. But I guess i can live with that as I don't have that many duplicates, if at all.
